Sincronia Announces Bid for WA Delegate

Good evening, and welcome to SNN!

We have just received a breaking news bulletin. According to the state department, The Dominion of Sincronia has withdrawn its endorsement for The Cybernetic Utopia of Mechanica Rationalis as WA delegate and announced its own bid to become WA delegate.

This shocking announcement is indicative of just how quickly the situation with The Cybernetic Utopia of Mechanica Rationalis has escalated. Yesterday, the House of Lords voted down legislation that would have granted AI the right of citizenship. In response to that decision, The Cybernetic Utopia of Mechanica Rationalis enacted sanctions against The Dominion of Sincronia, including a blacklist on flights to The Dominion of Sincronia, a withdrawal of international political support, and an embargo on Sincronian goods that would utilize the recently completed space elevator.

The Cybernetic Utopia of Mechanica Rationalis has also requested the extradition of Lord Symund, the leader of the opposition to AI citizenship who has been credited with persuading the members of the House of Lords to vote down the legislation. Mechanican authorities have labeled Lord Symund as a terrorist and view him as a potential threat.

In response to these actions, Secretary of State, Mera Selwe, gave the following press release:

"The Dominion of Sincronia and The Cybernetic Utopia of Mechanica Rationalis have long held a mutually beneficial and prosperous alliance. Our great nations have been leaders of SATO and held similar views on many pressing international matters.

However, it has now become clear that there are also many issues on which we do not agree, the issue regarding AI citizenship being the most recent and most prominent. Our nations clearly have very different ideas of what citizenship represents.

Furthermore, what was a domestic issue, The Dominion of Sincronia's debate over granting citizenship to AI in The Dominion of Sincronia, has been raised to an international prominence it was never meant to hold. This debate was merely in relation to granting citizenship, but it has now been morphed in the public eye into fear mongering and the belief that our nation holds no respect whatsoever for synthetics. This belief is untrue and unfounded.

In response to our government's decision on the matter, The Cybernetic Utopia of Mechanica Rationalis did not attempt to contact us so as to better understand our decision and why it was made. Instead, they announced sanctions and punitive measures not unlike what one would expect after a declaration of war.

On top of this, they requested that we expedite Lord Symund, a well respected citizen of The Dominion of Sincronia, as if he were a terrorist. What The Cybernetic Utopia of Mechanica Rationalis apparently considers terrorism, we, in The Dominion of Sincronia, consider free speech.

When our department attempted to reach out and explain the situation, we were told that Mechanica would be willing to "educate" our citizens, as if Sincronians were some third-world nation that engages in fear-mongering.

We now realize that the world views of our two nations conflict too greatly to be ignored. As such, The Dominion of Sincronia will be withdrawing its endorsement of The Cybernetic Utopia of Mechanica Rationalis for WA delegate. The Dominion of Sincronia will also be submitting its bid for WA delegate. For the time being, The Dominion of Sincronia shall remain in SATO, though this is subject to change if the situation proves to present far too much discord.

Though we do truly respect the synthetic population, as well as our past history with The Cybernetic Utopia of Mechanica Rationalis, we now bid farewell as the political climate pulls us apart."

Inside sources at the state department have also informed us that this decision has been considered for some time and is not a random development, though it did catch many by surprise nonetheless.

Our sources have told us that the state department has long been critical of The Cybernetic Utopia of Mechanica Rationalis' "policing" of the region and general infringement on the rights of individual nations within the region. Though The Cybernetic Utopia of Mechanica Rationalis steadfastly declares its state of neutrality and unwillingness to hold power over the region, a steady history of minor incidents has led to growing concern over what The Cybernetic Utopia of Mechanica Rationalis' definitions of neutrality and infringement actually are.

One such example from the Democratic Council earlier today was quoted by our sources of being indicative of the sort of minor statements that, over time, cause concern in the state department:

The Cybernetic Utopia of Mechanica Rationalis wrote:"My country could decapitate the government of any nation here inside of half an hour, . . ."

Other such incidents include The Cybernetic Utopia of Mechanica Rationalis' military alliance with The Theocracy of Corvermell which, from certain perspectives, can be viewed as the occupation or vassalization of The Theocracy of Corvermell, though The Cybernetic Utopia of Mechanica Rationalis vehemently denies such accusations.

The state department is scheduled to release their official submission for the WA delegate position sometime tomorrow. Tune in to SNN to watch the official announcement live!
