Think both work, depending on if it's dedicated (on location) or distribution (multiple locations/machines)

no there were no hackers, its just sending information at our server and overloading its connection. Basically there was too much information for the connection to handle so no-one else could make a connection, hence everyone getting kicked off.

It could have been a DDOS, but it takes many hackers sending in data at the same time to overload a server, or DDOS it.... The equivalent to about a ton of people getting in or processing information on the server at once could have similar effects.

Legion is correct: the first 'D' in DDOS is for 'distributed', not dedicated. If it's not distributed, it's just an ordinary DOS. </securitynerd>
