Fan-Fic The Dwarf and the Lady Fair

MRPolo13

The Arbiter of the Gods
May I point out that this is an inner joke, but may be a fun read and speculation nevertheless~. You can ask me in PMs, but please don't spoil it ;3

The council sat around in a large arena, shouting over one another. The young girl brushed her long, curled copper hair from her face in boredom, looking around. For the sake of her people, she had to stay here, amongst idiots who'd hate each other now, just to get drunk together minutes later. She needed allies, and she needed them soon.
The King of Renatus, a fat man with a huge moustache moving below his chin, was shouting something with such passion sliver dripped off his second chin, and his face started to turn purple. His noblemen got up to calm him down, but he pushed them away with great force. The girl rolled her eyes and sighed. Only moments more, and this joke of a meeting will be over.
We have decided what to do with the convicted traitor at the least, she thought to herself. Two hours' worth of screaming just to achieve this.
The fat king finally fell to his chair, breathing heavily, and leaving the hall somewhat silent for a moment. The girl used this moment to gather her thoughts, before another nobleman of Renatus, one of king's personal friends, got up and started speaking in a calm voice. The rest of lordship of Altera nodded slightly. From what she could gather, that man had the chance to be elected as the next king.
Leader of Engem - friends of Renatus, got up to clap first. The discussion was concerning the sanctions placed upon Renatus from the Silver Council, which were caused by the Nobility's expansion. Indeed, it was about time they achieved a conclusion.
Finally, the rest of lordship achieved majority and it was decided. The girl backed Renatus - it may be a good idea to get on good terms with them.
A handsome man with lightly tanned skin and a handsome face came up to her with a slight smirk - one of her vassals. He proposed to her in the past, and it was obvious he was simply gathering his money to afford another proposal. The thought of marriage made her shiver, but the girl knew she'd have to do it someday, both to prolong her bloodline and strengthen her country. But she couldn't marry a vassal... it'd be unprofitable.
They walked out to the escort which awaited them outside, then headed up the stairs of the large hall, into the dry, hot air. She preferred cold, and truly missed it.
"M'laddy," someone said behind her, and she turned slowly to notice a Dwarf with a blind eye. He was the Dwarven King. "A'd lake ta talk ta ya fer a moment please, in private."

They walked along the lush gardens. He was very nervous. What good did he have to offer her? She, who was the quintessence of human beauty - if there was such thing. But he knew that he'd be damned if he never made his move.
"Are ya aware of th'power of me kin?" he asked, trying to hide the shivering of his voice.
She looked down at him with a smile, gesturing for them to sit on a bench. Her escort stood couple of metres behind, just outside the range of hearing.
"I am, good lord," she replied. "Why, do you wish to hand it away in charitable will?"
Her voice was divine, he thought to himself. Good thing that Dwarves are all red by nature, the back of his mind would whisper mockingly.
"Nae... but Ae am willin' to make a proposition."
"Oh?" she smiled lightly, as if knowing what he wanted... She couldn't have known though. It's impossible. "What would that be, good lord?"
Now was the move, he thought. Forget that Engem. Forget those rat-ridden tips. Just tell her.
And so he did. He took her hands and looked up, into her eyes, his own trying to hold back tears of embarrassment.
"Aye... Ae love ya, m'laddy," he said, his voice as strong as the steel that his people were so proud of. "Ae love ya n Ae think our mar'age would be a good ting..."
A light pink blush appeared on her cheeks. It quickly grew, and spread over her whole face, which soon had the colour of her hair. Her eyes were wide, and for the first time he ever saw her, she looked like she was panicking.

"What must I do?!" she thought to herself. She was never faced with such a decision... He was a lot older than her, by almost a century. He was also a Dwarf, and could never bring her the children her people needed so much. On the other hand, he was a powerful man, who could ensure the survival of her kind... She also thought he was quite an attractive being, in his own, exotic way.
She swallowed. She thought of all the options, but only two struck her mind... Say no, and risk breaking his heart... or...
"Yes," she said, and a huge stone fell off her heart. She breathed into tears of joy, as he smiled under his well looked after beard. "Yes, yes yes... Yes, I love you."
They came closer and kissed.

Chalkan and Albareth peaked from behind the corner, before shaking their hands with a smirk.
"We ensured a big political marriage, don't you agree?" Albareth asked.
"Aye..." Chalkan just bursted out laughing. "I told ya it'd work."
"Let's go drink, on me."
The two walked off, laughing and joking.
