ISTJ: The Examiner
Defined by their honor and duty. Take any task seriously and give it more than their best. Somewhat reserved and prefer to work alone, but can make great team members if the need arises. Deeply value traditions and loyalty and often put duty before pleasure.

Mood character is most often in: Contemplative
Sense of humor: Dry, but straightforward
Character’s greatest joy in life: Growth and Learning.
Character’s greatest fear: Failure
Why?: Failure is not simply the act of failing, and it is not a singular, solitary event. Rather, failure, to Henri, represents collective failure. The failure to do his duty. To support his family. To support god. The failure to protect those under him. Failure in the ultimate meaning.

What single event would most throw this character’s life into complete turmoil?: Loss of title and land.
Character is most at ease when: Building
Most ill at ease when: Confronting heresy. He does not feel that belief in a particular Angeli necessitates inquisitory actions.
Enraged when: Those who claim to represent honor, besmirch it.
Depressed or sad when: People don't understand the nobility and purpose behind the drives of Artois.
Priorities: Building Thorne and making it a force to be reckoned with, as well as expanding Artois and doing the will of Ignis.
Life philosophy: While the world exists in shades of grey, it is the gentleman's duty to remove those divisions and make them black and white. For honor and service, these lines are fine, and the divisions many. However, his certainty and life events have shaken this mantra. He is facing new shades of grey every day...
If granted one wish, it would be:To cease being lonely
Why?:Relationships were never his strong suit.
Character’s soft spot: Women and children on the battlefield. He couldn't bring himself to kill a barbarian woman and her devilish child in the siege of Rambar Motte.
Is this soft spot obvious to others?: Not always. A visor covers many emotions, some of them unwanted.
Greatest strength: Wielding a blade, and his carpentry. Fighting is like breathing to a soldier of Artois. Henri also picked up constructive carpentry throughout the years, lending a hand in designing and building the homes and fortresses of both Haven and Thorne. Keeping a stiff upper lip.
Greatest vulnerability or weakness: His knees. Henri has spent so much time in the saddle that his knees are a tad swayback. The sign of a longtime rider.
Biggest regret: Not being able to defend that one Moor Elf during the battle at Storm's Landing (solus )
Minor regret: Not being able to defend Haven before being forced to leave the old lands.
Biggest accomplishment: Surviving a grueling series of wars and conflicts and blights against humanity.
Minor accomplishment: Building two cities
Past failures he/she would be embarrassed to have people know about: His cowardice at the Battle of Breakwater.
Why?: Henri found himself locked inside the castle at Breakwater and was forced to flee, protecting the King. While most would say that he was doing his duty (he was ordered to do so), he felt like he was denied the honor and privilege of fighting. However, he felt relieved at leaving the carnage. It would later come to haunt his pride, and fill him with shame. Others say that what he did was a necessity. 'The King must be protected'. But that does not stop Henri from feeling like he was a coward for fleeing.
Character’s darkest secret: See above.
Does anyone else know?: No one knows.

Goals
Drives and motivations: Rebuild in Eastmere, and turn Thorne into a prosperous and peaceful town that Henri never knew.
Immediate goals: Find an heir.
Long term goals: Consolidate power. Move on and gain honor, renown, and strengthen Thorne. Strengthen Artois. Ensure the succession.
How the character plans to accomplish these goals: Continue building Thorne.
How other characters will be affected: Ignis save Artois!

Past
Hometown: A peasant village with no name in the shadow of the once-great capital of Lavoyard, Knight's Haven.
Type of childhood: ordinary, if poor.
Pets: Currently, he has a small stable of horses, but no house pets.
First memory: Hard to pinpoint, likely playing outside, or helping his mother or father with some menial task.
Most important childhood memory: Village festivals
Why?: What child doesn't remember the good times they had?
Childhood hero: The knights in the castle keep within Knight's Haven.
Dream job: A knight.
Education: Originally limited, however he is an autodidact, and as such has taught himself much of what he knows.
Religion: Limited knowledge of Ignis in the past.
Finances: Varied. From next to nothing in his early life, to a splendid bank account now. Build-up is expensive, but it's primarily construction now.

Present
Current location: Thorne
Currently living with: Himself.
Pets: None, besides the cohort of horses mentioned above.
Religion: While anyone who is a part of Artois better praise and recognize the dominance of Ignis. Henri is not the most devout man, but he is working on it. It is not that he is an atheist or agnostic, but rather that he doesn't have time to devote to his Faith. He knows the tenets and creeds, and can recite them.
Occupation: Statesman, Knight, Noble, Landowner
Finances: He never has a large storage of coin, mostly because he spends it on updates and building. When he is finished building, perhaps he'll acquire a decent respectable sum. Most of his wealth is tied up in his lands.

Family
Mother: He remembers her fondly, especially her smile and her lovely humming voice. Her long black hair and the way she worked hard in the fields. He doesn't know what happened to her. He was never able to find out before being forced to leave. He regrets never being able to visit or say goodbye to her...
Relationship with her: Fond memories. Unknown where she is now, if she is currently living. Henri can only hope that she died a peaceful death in the Northern Kingdom before the undead blight ravaged the world. The thought of her wandering for eternity as a rotten husk of humanity sends a shiver down his spine that he'd never admit.
Father: A gruff man, but fair. Worked hard, and instilled in Henri a work ethic he uses to this day. Much of Henri's personality comes from his father: Rather impassioned on matters of fairness, but emotionally removed in matters of work.
Relationship with him: Same as his mother. He is unsure of what happened to him following the weakening of the wards.
Siblings: None.
Relationship with them: N/A
Spouse: None.
Relationship with him/her: N/A
Children: None.
Relationship with them: N/A
Other important family members: None ;n;

Favorites
Color: Blue
Least favorite color: He doesn't hate colors
Music: Jaunty. Music that gets the bones moving. Something to lift the spirits. Usually warcamp or tavern music. He has a soft spot for a good war march song.
Food: He has a love of all things salty. This usually manifests itself in his love of spit-roasted game or seafood.
Literature: He doesn't usually read for enjoyment, however, he has the ability to read, and as such uses it often for work-related purposes.
Form of entertainment: Training, riding, and tending to his plants. He finds gardening relaxing. This can be seen in the various horticultural designs around Thorne. One only needs to look at the Palace gardens to see his love of all things green. It's his largest stress-reliever.
Mode of transportation: Riding. Hates wagons and their bumpy, nauseating wheels.
Most prized possession: His steel sword.

Habits
Hobbies: Riding, Training, and Gardening
Plays a musical instrument?: None.
How he/she would spend a rainy day: Drawing up blueprints and reading memos and notes about the Dukedom.
Spending habits: Thrifty and likes to haggle, given the necessity of buying many supplies
Smokes: Would not turn down a pipe, but often finds smoking to get in the way of clear thinking, despite how relaxing it can be.
Drinks: Occasionally.
Other drugs: None.
What does he/she do too much of?: Thinking
What does he/she do too little of?: Speaking
Extremely skilled at: Fighting, Riding, and Building
Extremely unskilled at: Socializing, Leadership
Nervous tics: Zoning out
Usual body posture: Stately
Mannerisms: Polite and to the point, often blunt to the disregard of formality
Peculiarities: He tends to sequester himself in social situations. Feels more at home on a battlefield.

Traits
Optimist or pessimist?: Realist. He doesn't see the glass half full or half empty, rather he sees 'the container as twice as large as necessary to contain set liquid.'
He is determined, more than ever to regain his previous paradigm.
Introvert or extrovert?: Introvert
Daredevil or cautious?: Cautious
Logical or emotional?: Logical
Disorderly and messy or methodical and neat?: In the heat of the moment, messy, but otherwise neat and methodical.
Prefers working or relaxing?: Working
Confident or unsure of himself/herself?: An odd mix.
Animal lover?: Yes, however, he hasn't had time for pets.

Self-perception
How he/she feels about himself/herself: Recent near-death experiences, and his confrontations with authority have finally fixed his nobility in his mind. He is no longer the peasant that he thought he was. He has to behave ever bit the lord that he now is.
One word the character would use to describe self: Dedicated
One paragraph description of how the character would describe self: Henri is very much an individual 'in flux'. He tends to sideline himself, but rather because of a lack of interest in engaging others, rather than because of his own ineptitude. He finds that life is easier after the moral grey areas of life have been wrestled into submission and forced to produce a black and white world with which he may make sound moral judgement. However, when confronted with moral hazards, he often finds himself doubting. At heart, Henri knows that he is a trumped up peasant, living well beyond his station, or what fate had designed for him. It is for this reason that he works so hard, so that people will only see a hardworking man, rather than a lazy peasant who got lucky.
What does the character consider his/her best personality trait?: His ability to reason out situations
What does the character consider his/her worst personality trait?: His way with women.
What does the character consider his/her best physical characteristic?: He has stayed in phenomenal shape over the years.
What does the character consider his/her worst physical characteristic?: His knees are starting to bow.
How does the character think others perceive him/her: Henri isn't quite sure what others think of him. He believes that most people dismiss him, and ignore him. Most of his station would take this as a slight, but he sees it as an advantage. If no one is paying attention to you, then no one is paying attention to your actions. You are able to act with near-impunity.
What would the character most like to change about himself/herself: His warmness. He wishes he could be more personable.

Relationships with others
Opinion of other people in general:
Does the character hide his/her true opinions and emotions from others?: Rather stone-faced. He does not hide any spoken feelings.
Person character most hates:
Best friend(s):
Love interest(s):
  • None. He is truly confounded and uncertain as to what happened. Regardless, life moves on.
Person character goes to for advice:
Person character feels responsible for or takes care of:
  • Cornelius (Niko ) - Henri's sworn man. A trustworthy, albeit quiet individual.
  • Jaxon (Michcat ) - While Henri's interaction with the man are limited, he certainly feels much more comfortable and confident for Thorne knowing that a blacksmith is down the road. He'll have to get around to knowing the man better. After all, it cannot hurt to befriend the man who sharpens your blade.
  • Wilhelm (magister ) - A new sworn man to Henri. The man seems intent on making something of himself. Perhaps Henri can use him? Wilhelm seems to have diappeared, and so Henri is slightly concerned, but knows the man seems loyal.
  • Adem (EnzoDaBoss ) - A man that Henri has only heard about, but has already agreed to assist in his homesteading efforts West of Thorne. The lands are in County Thorne, and so will be under Henri. Time will tell what sort of man Adem is, and how useful he'll be.
Person character feels shy or awkward around: Uncertain around women when it comes to courtship.
Person character openly admires:
Person character secretly admires:
Uncertain:
  • Maceo de Courtnay (BoredBrit ). The past is the past. Old water under the bridge and all that. But Henri is uncertain what to make of the man's move back to Anhald. He did not even consult Henri, and Henri views this as a breach of trust. Henri is not about to go back, groveling, to Anhald. Especially not now, with his consolidation and effort put forward in Artois.
  • Anna Falkiir (mokwar ) - A rather forward woman. An unorthodox meeting. However, she seems to have a softer side that belies her humble origins. Time will tell if she can be trusted.
  • The "Regent" (Blorbis83 ) - He didn't fully catch his name, and only knows him by his title. An amicable man. Henri isn't quite familiar with Southern ways or stewardship, but the man seems to wield some power in those lands. He would like to talk to him again soon regarding possible business arrangements.
Amicable:
  • Pod (SirLuamTehDoge ) - An honest man. Henri has found that he always enjoys the company of simple men. The men of the the Flanders clan are no different. May Ignis bless them.
It's complicated:
  • Duchess Alison (Elz ) - Back and forth. Back and forth. From ignoring the woman, to almost hostile, and back again, Henri has good reason to feel the way he does about the Queen. While he does not doubt her acumen, or her rightful place as queen-mother, he does have to question her sense of honor when it comes to fulfilling obligations. After an intense conversation, relations are more-or-less stabilized for the foreseeable future. Destroying the Empire? Nearly unforgivable, were it not for the freedom it gave Henri and Maceo to follow out their plans. (Deceased)

For someone who claims to have difficulty drawing men, this sure kicks the crap out of most. And certainly better than I could ever do.

I hate this character almost as much as I hate you, Arch. Bah, tax dodgers.... Unbelievable.
When events happen and the faction doesn't feel like it's stuck in neutral or apathy, then I pay taxes. If people disappear, and nothing happens, I stop paying taxes. It's simple. I pay for services.

War.
Expected. Abhorred. Necessary.

I knew that it was coming. All the signs predicted it, but few would have guessed that my decisions might make all the difference. The abuses against my realm by stealing my land. One piece of tinder. The refounding of the Church de Feu. Another tinder. Arthur's calling of the banners, and Brennard's calling of Kaalstaat's. Stick upon stick, and log upon log of wood. The talks of unification and of purging the lands of 'foreigners'? A large bird's nest of flammable kindling. The Young Lion's dismissal of Arthur, and inevitable fleeing, leading to his injury. Merely the spark that ignited the vast pile of perfectly preserved and prepared lumber into a smoldering, smoking pile. The fire has not started, but the crackling has started and the fire will roar to life soon.

I do not wish, nor do I desire to see all that I have created destroyed, much like a rowboat dashed against the rocks by a rogue wave. I have no good decisions to make in the coming days; merely a series of unsavory choices that leave a taste of bile in my mouth. On the one hand, I support the young King Arthur and those who seem to support the old ways: a way of honor, and abiding little leeway in regards to cultural tolerance, but a side with which I share no true love of. Arthur deigns himself my king, but I have not once talked to the man, nor has he proven himself worthy of my respect and loyalty. On the other hand, I have Kaalstaat and those who follow Alison. Where Arthur is merely an unknown, Alison represents a known and very frustrating element to my person. Repeated infringements on my pride, my honor, and my sovereignty would have destroyed lesser men. And yet, after promising to come to Thorne to talk and resolve our matters, I am presented with young envoys who, through no lack of guile themselves, give me the options of betraying my conscious or to suffer death and ruination. I am informed that if I cooperate, it may even lead to the independence of Thorne from the Empire.

Do they not see?! That such a shame, I could not bare! I have always served the Empire! My loyalty should be beyond reproach in that matter, and yet they effectively spit in my face and offer me independence.

Regardless... I have many friends within the north. Many whom I would loath to see across the field of battle from myself.

I have told Kaalstaat that I will stand by in this war. I will offer no aid to Reichstaat, for I love them not, but neither will I allow myself to subjugate myself to those in the North.

Thorne stands alone.
