Uriel Valhart was born in Storm's Landing to a slumborn courtesan and a wandering Anhalder Knight. He was raised alone by his loving mother on stories of Great Heroes and chivalrous Knights. The virtues of dutiful service to one's neighbours and devout faith in higher powers were instilled in him from the earliest age. A wide-eyed but strongwilled boy, Uriel dreamed of being the greatest Knight that Altera would ever see. He would often be found offering his services to all who seemed in need, be that to fight away the dragons plaguing their homes or simply sweeping the winding streets between their ramshackle huts within the Slums. It was on one such adventure that he met the first of his lifelong heroes; Raalvara Varyn-now-Edelmonte. Having decided, at the age of twelve, that he would prove his worth to all of the Landing- Uriel Valhart entered a competition that he should not have (something that, upon reflection in his later years, happened many times during his youth). Despite losing the competition, he won something far greater; a mentor. For it was in Raalvara that Uriel found a tutor and a leader. She taught him that it was not a Knight that he wished to be, but a Hero. Knights were corruptable and worldly- Heroes were indefatigable and selfless. With youthful enthusiasm, Uriel hung on her every word. She not only taught him how to fight, but also how to cook and to care for his wounds. It was Raalvara who introduced the young boy to Valiant and told him of their heavenly father above. All of this whilst ensuring to never douse his childhood into something darker and more dour. It was with Raalvara that Uriel underwent his first hunt for the elusive Skyrat (an endeavour he continues to this day with children of his own) and whilst they had no luck and Raalvara was hesitant to believe their existance at all, she humoured the boy and saw to it that his childhood flourished. That was until she was forced to take her leave. With her family in tow, Raalvara left the Landing and her Blackrush Crossing to lands unknown. Uriel was to find another and continue his training without her.
It was in those years that followed Raalvara's leaving that Uriel's naïve outlook on the world was forced to meet the reality of the world rather harshly. Many times was his name placed upon the roster for some adventure or other that inevitably resulted in tragedy.
First, he joined in on the Fuvurian Emperor's Game; the whole continent was tasked with finding and subsequently killing a great beast for some reason or another. This led to the boy trudging across the sands and dunes of the far Southern deserts. He had no idea why they were there, nor what it was they had intended to hunt. All that Uriel knew was that it was a chance to prove himself. Perhaps, he had thought, that if he had shown the world what he had learned, Raalvara would return. So it was, that the expedition delved into the reaches of a forgotten desert and was met with the arrival of a multitude of Kaiser Scorpions. The gathered hunters and adventurers swelled to the challenge. Uriel stepped forth with sword and shield to defend his compatriots. Many striking blows were met by his shield but Uriel was but a boy. Eventually his arm began to tire; eventually wood began to break. It was a strike toward the Fuvurian Princess (and a future friend of Uriel's, made in no small part due to this moment) that saw Uriel's first great failure. The tail of the beast smashed through the shield and plunged into his shoulder. He was lifted into the air by its great strength. His shield arm useless- venom poured into his body. The party below worked with great speed to dispatch the foe- but Uriel was not yet finished. With the last of his energy and all of his might, his sword arm flailed at the tail and freed the stinger from the wicked body. Content with the knowledge he had fought well, Uriel closed his eyes. But the story did not end there (even if it reasonably should- as Uriel continually reflects upon to this day) for the aforementioned Fuvurian Princess took the stage. Whilst the beast succumbed to the many swords and spears- Aelyth Fuvur saw to it that Uriel's wounds were bound and the venom was stemmed. Her efforts saw him live to fight another day and it would not be long before he did exactly that.
