World would travel that a War Game would be organized in the town of Asrakhan.
In the wake of events not so long ago, it was proven drilling of an army in realistic situations will aid them.
And such this war game shall serve as the next step for a better future.

The event, outside of fun rp and messing around, will serve as a playtest for a warfare system, thus expect some hiccups along the way.

Hey folks! If you're interested in leading a squadron of Astrakhan's finest, here's a selection of units below that you can choose to lead!

(This is not an exhaustive list, but it is what is available)

Kataphraktoi: Elite, Heavy Equipment, Mounted


The champion cavalry of the Legion, these men are clad head-to-toe in armor, usually plated lamellar and mail. Their visages are hidden beneath impassive masks of mail such that only black holes can be seen where their eyes should be! They are trained to use couched or two-handed lances, maces and swords, as well as recurve bows. Their horses are armored in lamellar.

Royal Tagmata Guardsmen: Elite, Heavy, Infantry

Composed of the best of the best within Astrakhan's army, the Royal Tagmata is a corp of bodyguards who are armored similarly to the cataphracts, but are generally seen on foot. They wield large, oval shields alongside spears and sidearms, two-handed axes/polearms, or a wickedly sharp, curved two-handed sword known as the rhomphaia.

Kavallaroi: Regular, Standard, Mounted


The kavallaroi (or equites) are legionaries who have chosen to fight amongst the cavalry! They are well armored in mail, scale, and/or lamellar with plate accoutrements. They prefer long spears and broad, cavalry swords known as spathae.

Hippotoxotai: Regular, Standard, Mounted



Horse archery is typically practiced by nomads, but it appears the Asrakosians alone have adopted the practice for their soldiers. The hippotoxotai are a strong medium cavalry who use their bows to harass enemy formations in an attempt to get them to give chase. Feigned retreats and "parting shots" are a favorite technique. They can hold their own in melee, but not against knights or determined men-at-arms!

Skutatoi: Regular, Standard, Infantry


The skutatoi or simply "legionaries" are the backbone of the Asrakosian army. While each division of skutatoi may vary slightly in terms of equipment, they are most commonly known to carry long triangular or kite shaped shields, as well as spears, arming swords (or some form of short sword, such as a gladius or kopis), and a mace. Others may carry polearms like bills, halberds, and poleaxes to assist their shield-bearing brethren. Well armored in plated lamellar, mail, scale, or brigandines, these men are hard nuts to crack indeed!

Toxotai: Regular, Standard, Missile Infantry

Armored similarly to their skutatoi kin, the toxotai are a heavy-medium force of missile infantry. They may carry crossbows, recurve bows, or even javelins depending on the situation, as well as large round shields.

Psiloi: Levy, Light, Missile Infantry



The word psiloi means "stripped" or "bare" in the Asrakosian dialect. It makes sense, therefore, that these infantrymen are unarmored or wear simple, padded vests and bronze helmets. They are swift-footed and tend to be armed with bows, javelins, or- more dangerously- slings with lead bullets! While they do carry axes or short swords, they should not be put into heavy combat!

Agrioi/Guerrillas: Elite, Light, Missile/Shock Infantry


The woods and mountains around Astrakhan are home to small, isolated communities of shepherds and woodsmen who often must fend for themselves. These lands breed tough "agrioi" wild men and women who often form corps of savage guerrilla warriors! Their primary weapon of choice is surprise as they leap from a hiding place and cleave their foes in two! They are armed with a variety of weapons, but their favorites are two-handed swords like the falx or rhomphaia. Some throw javelins as well.
They are armored in breastplates of linen or muscled bronze and steel, though some go entirely without armor at all or take it from slain foes...
