and Lucius was hit in his left. Being back to back resting in the snow. Together, they were struck, and together, they were marked.

Ylva will not remember this, but Lucius will.
When losing hope, Ylva was bedridden.
They were separated.
Ylva woke, with confusion.
Lucius came back, and together they were reunited.
Together, they are stronger.

Yeah, struck by lightning. They had much clothing, no metal. So it's likely they wouldn't die. All they had were swords, which they sacrificed for Crusade at the top of the mountain.
