As the neighboring Empire of Cor Votum descends into seemingly eternal warfare and rebellion, an order goes out to the governors of Astrakhan, Cydonia, and the Commander of Sungrad to welcome all refugees fleeing into the Asrakosian Dominion.
Despite a war-weary populace, the Dominion maintains vigilance over its borders as members of the Akritai, Viglai, (Border Guard & City Watch, respectively) and the Legion can be seen guarding all inns, caravanserais, roads and rivers under its control.
Undead are cajoled back in to the Empire if they are found in Asrakosian borders and brigands or deserters taking advantage of the chaos are hanged or crucified.
Any soldiers on either side of the conflict are directed back to their territories or through Dominion land to their intended destination.
These escorts, however, take belligerents* on long, meandering routes with frequent stops made at border forts or checkpoints to sign paperwork, check their supply carts, and interview officers.
While many legionary officers act like this is business as usual, it's clear that this is an attempt by the Dominion to discourage future war-parties (and thusly the war & all its violence itself) from coming to their lands.
Only occasional bouts of violence have broken out, sometimes foreign troops become impatient or turn into brigands and attack legionary outposts or patrols. These scuffles are brief, and end in either a crackdown by elite legionary units or in the outpost being destroyed and looted. If any battles take place on Dominion land, it is carefully observed and its outcomes recorded by legion scouts, who lurk just out of sight. While no Asrakosian troops have been seen taking a side in any battles, wounded soldiers and disaffected camp followers belonging to either side are provided care at the end of these battles.
Overall however, travellers report that the roads and waterways are still safe for business, perhaps doubly so compared to the past.
Merchants from the
Grand Collegium, local guides, porters, innkeepers, and mercenaries all welcome civilians unable to pass through the blockade or merchants needing new partners.
These efforts, combined with the general hospitality of Asrakosians to travellers (except apparently to passing armies) have seen an influx of wealth, immigration, and cultural trade to Astrakhan and Cydonia.
