Government of Corvermell Explained:

Corvermell is run solely by a priesthood. this is a rather unconventional way to run a country, and it has resulted in an overbearing mass of thousands of government officials, who all are somehow united enough to prevent the system from becoming a legislative nightmare. presumably.
A priest of Vermella is called a Housekeeper, and is addressed by that title. the role of a Housekeeper involves not only official priestly duties, but also the administration of the region their temple (called a House of Vermella, or simply aHouse) is responsible for. This administration involves what you might expect from a judge/mayor/priest: the funding of public projects, community outreach, religious education, and dealing with crimes in the court.

each Housekeeper must cooperate with fellow Housekeepers in every official action made, and because of this, all Housekeepers of a certain House must live together. otherwise, things just get messy.

The Law of Red

the Law of Red is an official document, detailing Vermella's doctrine precisely. all laws of Corvermell come from interpretations of the Law of Red, known as Amendments to the Law. an amendment can be changed or removed by official action, but the Law of Red is absolute.

Sangue Lune

the House of Vermella in Sangue Lune is designated as above the other Houses. much like the supreme court of the United States, the House in Sangue Lune holds the exclusive power to propose Amendments to the Law. these amendments must be agreed upon unanimously by the Sangue Lune House. Traditionally, all members of the Sangue Lune House are female.

Current Housekeepers of Sangue Lune:

- Alashe Paraniace: greatly cautious, a scholar of Corvermell's history, who is often suspicious of foreign powers.

- Nihere Pausina: primarily concerned with the continued safety of the people, has set forth programs wherein dutiful citizens may learn to wield a weapon in accordance with the Law of Red.

- Melai Laica: primarily concerned with the health and safety of the people. stoic, but not without a caring side.

- Thiya Keirattin: the leader of the Traditionalist party, infamously angry at everything, has little patience for foreigners.

Past Housekeepers of Sangue Lune:

- Nyarlaica Miyere: Resigned due to stress

- Auska Salei: Resigned following the death of Petra Galtari Igna

The Grand Priestess

the Grand Priestess is actually nothing like the leaders of other religions. she holds equal standing to the fellow housekeepers of the Sangue Lune House. her added role in the government is merely to act as the voice of the people, and thus, she represents the country on official matters and makes speeches to the people. the Grand Priestess is chosen by consensus among the members of the Sangue Lune House.

Current Grand Priestess: None

Former Grand Priestesses:

-Petra Galtari Igna: died of disease, to everyone's dismay.

Law of Red:

much more like Paganism than "modern" faiths like Christianity or Islam, the Law of Red is both the law, and the sole faith of Corvermell. the Law of Red worships Vermella, the Goddess of Red, exclusively, though it acknowledges and pays respect to the gods and beliefs of other faiths. According to the housekeepers, the Law of Red is a code, to be adhered to by all followers of Vermella, so that there may be peace and unity among the people. It began in the valleys of Morgnatha, in either 900 AD or 2530 BC, depending on who you ask.

from an outside view, the Law of Red seems like a very loose code of conduct, allowing for many types of actions easily considered a sin in other faiths. this is not true in the slightest, as the Law of Red is supplemented with amendments, interpretations to the law so that it remains relevant in nearly every situation. the key word in all interpretations is responsibility. all things are connected, by cause and effect, and by the numerous systems and relations in this world. thus, every person, and every action they make, they are directly responsible for. thus, in order to follow the Law of Red, to not needlessly spill blood, you must behave, speak, and act in such a way as to never allow bloodshed to be the effect.

speak with respect to all people, rectify mistakes immediately, do not act recklessly, or endanger yourself, in all times consider every single effect of your actions. be sharp of mind, ever-vigilant, and possess great strength of mind. do not take a position of leadership if you cannot be responsible for every life you lead.

these rules, combined with a great number of traditions and rituals, makes the Law of Red an elaborate and powerful religion, with the result of fostering a great sense of piety in the faithful, unifying them under their faith. it is mainly because of the strict nature of the Law of Red that Corvermell can even function. without the overbearing sense of social responsibility instilled in the people, the underfunded police force would be overwhelmed, the citizen militia would be a chaotic liability, the government's power would become nonexistent as housekeepers bickered endlessly over every issue. the housekeepers are acutely aware of this, and the knowledge that they must be united to survive, and that they must be faithful to be united, is an inalienable truth that is never spoken of, but understood by all.

Political Parties of Corvermell

Corvermell does not exactly have political parties. while a number of housekeepers would often band together under a certain name, many times, these "parties" were only concerned with a single issue, and would quickly disperse after the issue was resolved. for this reason, many housekeepers have trouble understanding such political subtleties as the difference between a socialist and a communist.
following the Tragedy of Pedrate Square, however, there have arisen two political parties which have grown in scope beyond single issues, becoming full-fledged parties. indeed, they seem poised to divide the country along political lines, forever changing the political climate of Corvermell.

Traditionalist

the traditionalist party was created in reaction to foreign aggression and cultural influence. they believe that the traditions of Corvermell should be kept as sacred as the Law of Red, and that measures should be taken to prevent those traditions from falling apart.
they wish to fund education programs to instill a sense of patriotism in the youth, place tighter restrictions on immigration, and withdraw international support. the most extreme believe that Corvermell should withdraw from the council entirely.

in recent issues, the Traditionalist Party has held that Corvermell should seek to become independent from Mechanican influence, citing reasons of nationalist honor and fear of eventual annexation ("we will not submit to become a synthetic's sea resort!").

Notable Members:
- Thiya Keirattin of House Sangue Lune
- Alashe Paraniace of House Sangue Lune
- Veritas Milari of House Petra Veyr
- Kouam Galtare of House Petra Veyr

Integrationist

the integrationist party was formed in reaction to the traditionalist party, purporting to be a "voice of reason" against fearmongering rhetoric. they believe that continued friendly relations with the other members of the council is important for the continued well-being of the nation, and are for economic freedom, opened borders, and continued alliances with the strongest nations of the region.

in recent issues, the Integrationist party has attempted to mend relations with once-enemy countries, strengthen the alliance with Morgnatha, and improve the vermellan economy.

Notable Members:
- Narai Veriahove of House Dinici
- Vaila Namasie of House Veyr-Parai (synthetic)
- Graiva Dictheri of House Kamiki
- Lapau Endalaus of Ronasta (Morgnatha)

and then other pointless stuff goes here!

Anthem: (Let me Think)

Notes on Corvermell:
- Nudity is legal, and considered utterly nonsexual. indeed, most of Corvermell's religious holidays are celebrated in the nude.
- the issue of Corvermell's ridiculous amount of recreational drug use is absolutely under control. most of the more dangerous drugs, such as cocaine, ecstasy, and alcohol, have controls placed on them so as to prevent needless death, and the safer drugs are restricted to anyone but those over 21. the more popular drugs are marijuana and a native tea leaf called sageweed.

- homosexuality has always been legal. it has been an accepted part of vermellan culture since the founding of the nation, and female homosexuality in particular is more common than in other nations (cue the lesbian island jokes)

- Corvermell has no army, merely an armed militia and a police force. this police force is aided in part by Mechanican defense systems, which have become a natural part of the landscape

- Automobiles are not allowed onto Corvermell soil, as the fumes have been deemed toxic to the surrounding air. as a result, the streets of Corvermell's cities are infamously small. most of the populace travel by bikes in the cities, and by horse or oxcart in the rural villages.

- Corvermell's businesses can operate independently, and citizens can own their own property, but larger businesses (a classification determined by number or employees) must have their company's policies annually reviewed by the Housekeepers, to be sure it is in accordance with the Law of Red. Foreign companies seeking to expand or outsource to Corvermell soil must pen a separate document of company policy, applicable on Corvermell soil, to be reviewed annualy. there's a law agency on Corvermell that specializes in helping to write such documents.

- 90% of Corvermell's energy is solar, and most homes are either outfitted with solar panels, or simply make do without electricity. the other 10% is supplied by geothermal power plants, one on each of Corvermell's three volcanic islands.

- Corvermell's internet: not everywhere, kinda slow, still modern.

- after a long, long period of frantic bickering, the nation has conceded that dueling will be allowed, but only to first blood, with a housekeeper refereeing, and medical attention should be sought in the aftermath. in the event of a death, the winner should compensate the family, pay for the funeral, and solemnly apologize.

- recently, a nuclear fusion power plant has been built near Sangue Lune, supplying an extensive and ridiculous amount of nuclear power to numerous islands in the archipelago. this power plant was presented as a gift from Mechanica Rationalis, in return for offering the synthetic Vaila Namasie a position as housekeeper of Veyr-Parai.

thats the last of the posts. finally.

@Deathmoron

Genocide Threatened on Corvermell!

Alvaro Perez, a prominent Roachen activist and soapbox orator, caused quite a stir last week when he publicly called for the complete extermination of the people of Corvermell, accusing vermellan citizens of being 'sub-human', 'immoral', and 'really weak too':

A marching of protesters fill the public streets of the town square. Rioting seems to be inevitable with the numbers; though, a man walks onto a stage and the parade goes quiet with only some using murmurs to speak. The man begins.

"Hola, yo soy Alvaro Perez. Tu lider en este reunión para nuestro voces. Estamos aqui para que el gobierno nos escuche y haga algo contra la mierda de sociedad que son los de la theocracia. Theocracias es la muerte del mundo. Que un nacion trabaja debajo un identidad que no existe, es para que justicien su inferioridad. Eso es porque se deben eliminar!"

The man chuckles afterwards, "Sera facil. Ellos no tienen un militar de su mismo, pero tiene a los andriodes. Los debil se esconden. No deben estar /vivos/. En la naturaleza, los debiles mueren. Lo de Covermell son debiles."

(subtitles: "hello, everyone. I am Alvaro Perez, your leader in the reunion of our voices. we are here today so that our government can hear us, and do something about the **** of society that is theocracy. Theocracies are the death of the world. That one nation works under an identity that does not exist, [something about justifying their inferiority]. this is why we should eliminate them!

je je je, it will be easy. they don't have a military of their own, but they have the androids. the weak hide. they should not be /alive/. in nature, the weak perish. those of Corvermell are weak.")
[end video footage]

Housekeepers everywhere are in riot about this complete travesty, yet at a loss about what to do.

"I can't believe we're even debating this," says Housekeeper Thiya Keirattin, "Doesn't it not appall you that a man, who would obviously be happier if we all died horrible, painful deaths, is given a voice in that militaristic land of red-spillers? Let him continue and there will be machine guns at our door! we are supposed to keep our nose out of international affairs, but talking about open genocide, they might as well declare war on us! Hate speech is a very serious threat, We can't just ignore this!"

"Words by themselves can't hurt anyone," counters Housekeeper Salori Telaia, "We don't need to be 'protected' from some backwards rat spouting nonsense, by the Queen's Light! oh, let us make a deal of this internationally! perhaps set another embargo! You can't punish people for disagreeing with you! if the government was actually planning to do something to us, we would know!"

"I agree to an extent," ventures Housekeeper Veritas Milari, "But insulting one person is not the same as insulting an entire social grouping. The wrong word in the wrong place and you WILL have a serious threat: that's the reality we live in, whether we like it or not. If we want to make any real difference then we need to nudge international attitudes in the right direction with government awareness programmes and the like. I cannot believe I am agreeing with integrationists, but we need to reach out! Laying down a reactionary accusation will just fuel resentment in the long run."

(Im just posting this issue with nothing but name-changes, because seriously who could possibly improve on this genius?)

Flouride Controversey a Toothy Problem

Recent reports revealing that the dental health of Corvermell is far below the regional average have ignited a fierce debate over whether to introduce fluoride to the nation's tap water reserves.

  1. "Fluoride has been shown time and time again to promote dental health," argues Dr. Maralei, Chairperson of 'Friends of The Teeth'. "It's not an experimental drug for heaven's sake, it's an accepted method of promoting national good health. A nationwide program for the fluoridation of drinking water should not be seen as optional - it's a no-brainer for any sensible government. We need to implement this now, whether the public want it or not."

"I am strongly against this proposal!" rages Asori Tella, one of the more vociferous members of the Corvermell Green Society. "When I turn on the water tap I expect to get just that. Water. Nothing else. We are not lab rats and it is not the government's place to force us into taking these chemicals! In fact I reckon we should put the brakes on all these new chemicals doctors keep pumping into people and give us the right to say no!"

"There's no need to go to either extreme," says a random dentist. "It's all about, um, choice. Here's a nice alternative: why not just have clean non-fluorinated drinking water and give more funds to dentists? If we had enough money, we could make all dental care absolutely free! It will be demanding on the taxpayers I know, but they'll surely be happy when they all have sparkling white teeth!"

Blah Blah Breaking News

(im lazy. sorry.)
startling reports have arisen about the terrible state of Corvermell asylums. rather than spend even more redstones into fixing the institutions, the nation has opted to shut them down entirely, releasing the patients and assigning them to basic therapist care. hopefully, family and friends will be able to step in where the mental healthcare system cannot.

"I'd like to spend more money on psychiatric care too, but there simply isn't any room in the budget," grumbles Vermellan Health Service accountant [blah blah blah]. "At this rate we're already going to be running a deficit next year anyway. We should be cutting down on expenses, not spending more. The taxes we save will mean citizens will have more in their pocket: they can pay for private treatment if they aren't happy with our basic services."

Gold Mines Closed Down

in a desperate plea for peace, the housekeepers of Kamiki and Telaia, two islands renowned for their extensive stores of precious gold, have sent a governmental order to shut down the mines immediately. because of this, Housekeeper Dictheri is no longer selling vermellan jewelry.

every worker that worked in the mines had been counted and recorded, the files sent to Curachan government, then released publicly. as Housekeeper Dictheri has said, "there is no need to go to war over a filthy lie."

furthermore, they have distributed public releases of the Corvermell "mining code," one of many sets of laws put in place to regulate industry in.... very very elaborately detailed ways.
dang that's a lot of safety rules.

among the many many rules, helpfully highlighted in the public releases, is part of a series of laws stating who can be hired to work in vermellan gold mines of any sort, summarized here for your convenience:
  1. must be over 26 years of age
  2. no physical disabilities of any sort, excluding vision problems
  3. no history of lung problems, circulatory issues, blah blah
  4. must be a natural-born vermellan citizen
