The Rangers of yore are gone. Even those who bear their legacy have walked away, earned retirement, or forgotten. Even so, the Rangers yet find a way to survive, and in the void left behind, something new begins. What once were called Rangers are now called Wardens, standing shoulder to shoulder with the the more esoteric Watchers. Together they form a more complete guild than ever before

As an organization, the Rangers are scrupulously neutral, at least as related to mortal politics. The Sentinels focus the efforts of the guild on existential threats and unnatural incursions that threaten the natural balance of the world. Watchers study and learn about the stranger things found in the world, collecting a catalogue of knowledge and skills which see threats before they happen, and learning or developing ways to counteract these threats. The Wardens they work with are the shield and sword, putting what has been learned into practice.

Individuals are free to take what action they feel necessary, even if they do not have the backing of the guild, as long as it is not in direct opposition to the core principles.

STRUCTURE

As always, the Sentinels lead the Rangers. There can be up to three at any given time.

The rest of the Rangers are now split into two cohorts:

+ The Watchers are the scholars of the Rangers. They are the healers and alchemists. They focus their efforts on pursuits of the mind, and complement the Wardens.​
​
+ The Wardens are the arm of the Rangers. Ready to fight or explore or protect. They focus their efforts on pursuits of the body, though not to the exclusion of the mind.​
​
Newcomers to the guild join as Fledglings. When they choose a path, they become Apprentices. Apprentices graduate to Junior Rangers - who are considered full members of the guild.

Sentinels

Sentinels are the leaders of the guild. They determine the direction of the Rangers and approve and oversee the induction of potentials into the guild. At any given time, there are up to three Sentinels. One is focused on matters pertaining to the Wardens, another on things affecting the Watchers, and the third ensures there is balance between them. They carry an oak leaf forged of metal as a signet of their rank.

These Rangers are well-known for being thus, and their inclusion in the guild can be considered common knowledge.

Senior Rangers

Senior Rangers are former Sentinels, and charged with advising the current leaders and helping to maintain the quality of training among the recruits. This is not a rank that Rangers can typically achieve, and is typically 'earned' through retirement. They carry an oak leaf forged of metal as a signet of their rank.

These Rangers have a fairly well-known history with the Rangers, and their inclusion in the guild can be considered common knowledge.

Rangers

Rangers are full members of the guild. They are able to act in the world at large as a 'Ranger' at their own discretion, as well as take apprentices. They carry an oak leaf forged of metal as a signet of their rank.

The membership of these Rangers in the Rangers Guild is not necessarily common knowledge.

Junior Rangers

Junior Rangers are considered full members of the guild as well, leaving their actions subject to their own judgement and discretion. The only restriction is that they must seek the permission of the Sentinels in order to take an apprentice. They carry an oak leaf forged of metal as a signet of their rank.

Apprentice Rangers

Apprentice Rangers have chosen their path and been inducted into the Rangers under the guidance and tutelage of a full Ranger. They must hone their skills and prove their worth in order to graduate to Junior Ranger. They carry an oak leaf carved of oak wood.
