Introduction -
I have once before attempted to compile my thoughts and beliefs upon the page, but the manuscripts on which I wrote are long lost and I have since thought it necessary to begin again. My name is Uriel Valhart and I am one of Valiant's Sons of Battle. I am called to write these words by the knowledge that my life is, in fact, temporary and that there will be a day that I will no longer be able to serve my Father and share his will as I have done all of my life and so, herein you will find my thoughts, my life and hopefully my teachings in regards to life and the service of the God that I have so devoted my life to. To begin with, I shall detail the formation of Valiant, his Court of Conflict and his Holy Plane of Arbalor. I shall then go on to share with you the words that my Father has shared with me and offer my meditations of their meanings and applications in our lives. Finally, I shall detail my life's service to Valiant and offer advice in ways that I believe we can all honour our father.
Instruction -
Our Father has his tenets, his commandments, here they shall be written at the head of this memoir lest we ever forget.
I. Hold true to thy given word.
II. Fester not thy body to disrepair.
III. Do not abandon diplomacy out of lust for war.
IV. Defend those that cannot defend themselves.
V. Do not betray thy companions, people, or traditions.
VI. Tremble not upon the field of battle, but always remember the better part of valor.
Formation -
Valiant is known far and wide as the God of War, the God of Honour and Justice. He is known to be one of the 'youngest' of the Alteran Gods but his ascension into the role of God of War is vastly disputed. The truth, as I have come to discover it, is thus; Valiant is not the amalgamation of the Gods of War that came before Him, but is rather their liege lord and they are his mesne. Those Gods of yore; Valor, Kilrox, Skeira, Crusade and Rahas are the prime members of his Court of Conflict, his archangels and generals of the Legio Lares and Legio Angeli. Though each once held the spark of Divinity, all are now subservient to Valiant as their lawful liege Lord and master of War, for this is the way of things. A God of War cannot be bested in war, for the very possibility implies they are no longer the Master, the Lord of Warfare- thus, those that have fallen have done so as it was their destiny to serve in the next's Court of Conflict.
The story of Valiant's ascension begins with disparity between Order and Chaos, Light and Dark, Harateth and Jishrim. With such opposing cosmic forces, conflict was inevitable. The two Gods, so sure of their own righteousness, each wrought a general, a God in their own right, to wage a war for their respective father's. From Harateth, we were given Valor or Korigon; who stood for Honour and Glory, and from Jishrim, we were given Kilrox; who stood for Bloodlust and Carnage. Immediately, the world was beset by violent warfare and mortals suffered in the thousandfold as they rose up in the banners of the Gods. Unable to stand idly by as the forces of greater Good and darkest Evil battled and risked the perfect balance of the realms, Korog brought forth his own God, a daughter of sorts, Skeira who cared not for a cause, but fought war but saw it for the truth, its necessity as a means to an end. She brought about an end in the endless bloodshed of Valor and Kilrox, for neither wished to be in a weakened and vulnerable state for Skeira to defeat them. Thus, the war became cold. For millenia, this uneasy stalemate stood strong, until the age of Corruption in which Kilrox himself was betrayed by his father and, sensing a final end to a war that had raged since the dawn of time, was set upon by Valor. His sword was met by Skeira's blade who, in turn, was attacked by the weakened Kilrox. The battle lasted centuries, it lasted moments, it was over before it even began. With their victories and with their losses, the balance had to be restored and thus, there stood a singular God, freshly ascended. Crusade, once the Angel of Undending Endeavour, was imbued with the divinity of all three Gods and bested them all. He forced them to bend their knee before his might and forged the first Court of Conflict. The story then does not continue until millenia again have past and new worlds have been walked upon. For, with the coming of Aldred, in the years after the unease and the retreat of the Gods, the balance was once again threatened. Weakened in battle with the Scion of Visage and betrayed by a paladin of the Pantheon, Rahas lay defeated. He offered his sword to a brother, the very God of War; Crusade, and with it he demanded a promise. Allow him into the Court of Conflict, that he may continue serving the people and in return he would pledge loyalty forevermore. Crusade took up the blade of Rahas and with it accepted this covenant. He slew Aldred and was now the God of War but was served by Honour and Justice. No longer could Crusade serve his purpose and follow conflict wherever it was wrought, for he was now bound by the rules of Law and Justice. The universe fought and struggled against this divergence, until Valiant stepped forth and challenged Crusade to single combat. A new angel, unheard of, bested the God of War and took his rightful place at the head of the Court of Conflict.
Upon his ascension and assumption of the title of War God, the celestial realm wrought a new home for the new God. This place is named Arbalor and it is a vast plane that floats amid a reddened sky rife with lightning's flashes and thunder's crashes. It is a land of perpetual warfare, fortifications and steadfast honour. At the heart of Arbalor, stands the greatest fortress citadel ever conceived. Impenetrable in every way, the mighty stone halls of Valiant are where the Court of Conflict and the mighty Legio Angeli can be found, when they are not called on campaign with our Father. (If you've actually read this far, holy fuck, thank you so much.) The very hall of our Father is an immense place, empty of furniture save for a singular round table around which the Court stand in times of need. The walls of the Great Hall are lined with shields that bear the arms of every Knight, Soldier and Mercenary to have ever fought in war or give their life in conflict, their deaths and deeds to be forever recorded in the halls of our Father. One day, your own sigils and coats of arms may find themselves appearing in our Father's hall, if they are not there already, and our Father will know them and your deeds by name.
I have noticed that in describing our Father's Holy realm I have referred to the Legions of Arbalor by name, but have not elaborated on their identity or purpose, and so I shall do exactly that. The Celestial armies of Valiant are vast and immeasurable, but it is known that they are separated into distinct legions, for there are the Legio Lares of Kilrox and Crusade: those who die in war or the service of Valiant and are conscripted to serve in the endless battles against the void, and the Legio Angeli: the angels and divine beings of Valiant's court that travel with him on campaign and are immortal in their very nature. I have met members of both mentioned legions; thrice I have called on the aid of the Legio Lares to assist me in my efforts against the encroaching evil, and of the Legio Angeli I have met the Angel Strategy, who afforded unto me the title of Warlord for my efforts in the Mortal realm but these are matters that I shall elaborate upon in Dedications, for they matter not to the formation of Valiant.
