Casting Attribute:
All rolls for determining the outcome of a spell are done using the caster's 'casting attribute' as a base, either Mind or Soul. As with anything, rolls are used when the outcome is reasonably in doubt. Some spells do not need rolls, and most will have more details for their use in their description.
  • Arcane mages may use their preference of Mind or Soul as their casting attribute
  • Divine blessed use Soul as their casting attribute

AoE Roll DC:
Spells that target an area or otherwise affect multiple people at once will almost always use the caster's casting attribute + Resilience + 10 as the DC for the roll. Any within the area of effect may make a relevant roll, and treat this DC as the number of successes that they need to beat.

General Mechanics:
  • Spells that apply on physical contact, such as touch spells or weapon augments, may use either a single casting-attribute-based roll to resolve the outcome, or a separate Body-based roll to determine the initial contact.
  • Spells that effectively require all parties to be out of combat to be cast generally do not require rolls.
  • Beneficial spells, or spells that self-target generally do not require rolls.
  • All spells that use a part of the target's body (blood, hair, etc.) to remotely apply an effect must be done with parts no older than a week, unless otherwise specified. This includes tracking spells, curse spells, and the like.
