The 7 dwarven clans of Altera

Trouble Kelp

Loyal Servant of Altera
What about the secret dwarven clan Rutilus Barbos?!
1: Noone ever mentioned it.
2: These are the original 7 dwarven clans barryg. A "clan" that is not one of these is entirely possible, though family might be a more appropraite name. Like for example, Tang's Sharppick "clan" comes from the clans Stoneborn and Duskhammer.
3: But if you want me to add it in, I will.....I dont really like the Iron Lung clan.

The Deepforgers:
Average height: 3 foot 10 inches (1.1 meters)
Average weight: 100 pounds (45 kilograms)
Eye color: Hazel or brown
Hair color: Light brown, verging on blonde in some cases.

Clan location: The south
Clan weapon: War pick
Clan material: Diamond
Clan flag: A Black pick set against a pale blue backround

Bio: The Deepforgers were the 5th dwarven clan to come into existence, and the third in the south. Coming along around the year 181 PC, the Deepforgers never formed a close bond with the Stoneborn or Duskhammers, keeping mainly to themselves. However, the Deepforges have a deep alliance with the Firedwellers, and the only clan known to see them, if infrequently.

General description: The Deepforgers are the best dwarven miners. In caves far beneath the surface, they slave away to extract the precious ores and minerals of the earth. Deepforgers keep to themselves mostly, locked up inside their halls and seldom marching to war unless it is truly necessary. They are smaller and thinner than most dwarves, the better to slip through narrow cracks in cave walls. Their skin is pale, the result of years of underground living, and they detest the sun. In addition, Deepforgers have the most superior night vision of any dwarf, being able to see up to 100 feet in the darkest places.

The Frostpeaks:
Average height: 4 foot 8 inches (1.5 meters)
Average weight: 160 pounds (72 kilograms)
Eye color: Ice blue or blue-grey
Hair color: Black or charcoal grey

Clan location: The far north
Clan weapon: Mace
Clan material: Rhewdur (also called Frostmetal)
Clan flag: A snow-capped mountain against a blue sky.

Bio: The Frostpeaks were the 4th dwarven clan to come into existence, and the first to come into the north. They originated around the year 172 PC. Being the only dwarven clan to be in the northern climes for several hundred years, the Frostpeaks developed a culture unique to themselves, assimilating pieces of Eskimo and Viking culture.

General description: Larger than the typical dwarf, Frostpeaks have a reputation as the biggest, toughest, and strongest dwarves. Forced to survive in harsh climate, the Frostpeaks are formidable warriors, though they lack the discipline of their southern cousins. In addition to being warriors, Frostpeaks are also wondrous smiths, and one of the only known smithers of Frostmetal. Lacking in grand stone halls, they construct glittering caves molded out of glacial ice, and carpets of polar bear and ice dragon skins.

There is even a banner hanging in the hall of Karuk-Thol. And I don't want to tell much about them because they are a secret clan. ;)

But they are part of a bigger society so maybe it's not really a clan. I will try and figure something out :)

As a side note:

Frostmetal:

While the Southern dwarves forge Star-Iron, the Northern dwarves have become masters of the material known as Rhewdur, or Frostmetal. Though slightly softer and more difficult to work with, Frostmetal is prized for its sharpness. While much work is required to put an edge on a Star-Iron blade, a Frostmetal blade can be made twice as sharp in half the time, making it a superb tool for cutting weapons. Frostmetal also can channel elemental spells of ice very easily, making this a superior weapon against creatures of fire.

The Firedwellers:
Average height: 4 foot (1.3 meters)
Average weight: 135 pounds (61 kilograms)
Eye color: Fiery red
Hair color: Fiery red

Clan location: The west
Clan weapon: Longsword
Clan material: Obsidian
Clan flag: A burning flame

Bio: The Firedwellers were the 2nd dwarven clan to come into existence, and the first in the west. Originating in the year 161 PC, they were rarely seen by a living soul until travelling south to seek near caves. There, few but the Deepforger clan ever see them in their lakes of lava.

General description: Among dwarves, the Firedwellers are sometimes viewed as a myth. Better known by the the Elvish translation of their clan name, "Azer", a Firedweller is the source of legends. Some say they swim in lava deep beneath the earth, seeking gems and obsidian. Some say that their hair is made of fire and their eyes of rubies. None of these can be confirmed, as so few are ever seen that it is unknown what they look like. What all the legends agree is that Firedwellers are almost supernatural forgers. Shaping the white hot obsidian with their bare hands, Firedwellers make the finest weapons in all Altera, which are coveted by kings throughout the land.

Sorry for the delay...been sick lately.

The Stoneborn:
Average height: 4 foot 6 inches
Average weight: 120 pounds (55 kilograms)
Eye color: Varying shades of grey
Hair color: Black or grey

Clan location: The south
Clan weapon: War-axe
Clan material: Stone
Clan flag: 7 stars in a black sky

Bio: The very first dwarven clan ever to come into existence, and the first in the south, the Stoneborn are the ancestors of the dwarven race. Originating in PC 160, they quickly became dominant in that area, nigh up until the coming of the Duskhammers, who quickly allied with them. Over the years, they interbreed, and are now the dominant dwarvish force in the south.

General description: The Stoneborn are, among many other things, the best architechts among the dwarves. Stoneborn master masons are the most skilled in all of Altera, and Stoneborn stone statues are extraordinary works of art. Compared to their perennial allies the Duskhammers, the Stoneborn are wiser, longer-lived, and tend to talk before fighting. They value wisdom and clarity of thought above all else, and many dwarvish scholars and librarians come from this clan. Don't let this fool you though; when angry, a Stoneborn's wrath is like the explosion of the volcano.

Master Pheonix

Lord of Altera
Just a proposed idea, but I think there should be 7 clan families that any dwarf in Altera must be a part of. So far, the clans I have are the Duskhammers, the Ironlungs, the Frostpeaks, and the SharpPicks. Please post here if you have comments, suggestions, or would like to join one of the clans.
Redbeard, Blackbeard, Huffletruff, Roughedge, Kegglarpick, Goldenhammer, Hamma?

Master Pheonix

Lord of Altera
Clan of Hamma:

Average Heights: 3 feet 2 inches
Average Weights: 50 kilos -ish
Clan Location: North West
Clan weapon: Short Sword
Clan Material: Red stone
Clan flag: 3 A red X with a sword through the middle in a white background
Clan features: Fiery red hair, long beards and eyes blue like diamonds

Bio: The Clan of Hamma were the 6th dwarven clan to come into existence. Coming along around the year 191 PC, the Hamma Clan formed a close bond with the Deepforges and they are the only clan known to meet with them.

General: Well, this clan prefers to dwell deep within their own mines with roaring forges and close to the heat of lava. They prefer more expensive minerals and pride themselves in red stone circuitry, they like their caverns to be tall and wide with ample space to live in. They are proficient red stone miners and always seem to know where to look for the precious mineral and have honed in their skill through centuries of mining passed down from father to son. They are quite a friendly, principally if you have very deep pockets to purchase their service ;)

1.War Hammer as a weapon is already taken
2. You can only have one material, and both Iron and Diamond are already taken
3. They need to be specialized in something. Like, they are excellent miners, or gem-cutters, or something. They need to be unique from the other clans, to have their own identity and feel to them.
4. Also, they're too well rounded.

Sorry for kinda crushing your hopes and dreams there...however, I might be able to combine some of your ideas with the Iron Lung clan...maybe the Redbeard clan...who are tinkerers, and in dwarvish their name is Creahamman or something.
