The Knights Radiant

Axex

Lord of House Hawklight
Present Day:

Axex shoved his sword deep into the spider's torso, rending it's insides, spraying dark blood over his armour. He swore, the monsters were gaining power, it was becoming harder and harder to kill them, more draining, more costly...

He ripped his sword free, kicking the carcass aside, and looked towards his Brothers fighting on the other parts of the wall. Nearby Tiberious was holding a breach in the fortress wall, his armour stained a dark red, corpses of zombies and spiders piled up around him, the dust of skeleton archers hanging in the air like a tainted mist. He glanced over briefly and smiled grimly at Axex before plunging his sword deep into a zombies neck, drawing it out and slicing apart another zombie in a swift, practiced motion, his skill as a swordsman evident.

Arthur and Marcus fought back to back, their armour crushed and cracked in countless places, swords coated in the blood of their enemies, strained looks on their faces, yet they were pushing the tide of enemies back grimly, every inch hard fought, they were winning. It was like this each night, the Knights pitted themselves against hordes of the undead, prepared to die at any moment to protect the kingdom. At the light of dawn each day the monsters would burn and fade, leaving only wearied Knights to rest and prepare for eternal bloodshed as their oath prevented death until fulfilled.

An arrow slammed into Axex's shoulder, punching through his weakened armour and lodging in his flesh, he grimaced, and snapped back to the present, his part of the wall was holding, but only just, he roared and leapt into the fray his sword a blur, entirely a part of himself, an expert of the blade, just as each Knight Radiant with him.

Despite his impending victory on that day, he knew, four Radiants were not enough to sustain the Northern Defences, the rest of the Knights were needed, to rise again, and commit blood and sword to the defence of the Kingdom. The oath must be fulfilled, vengeance gained.

Axex pushed thoughts of the future aside and brutally cut the skeleton in two, his great sword carving a path through its age old frame, tearing it apart. He spat on its corpse and glanced upward, the sun was rising, it's golden beams illuminating the battlefield, revealing the true extent of the battle. All around him fell creatures burned, their tainted bodies disspearing into ash.

It had been a difficult battle, it seemed they came harder each time, gathering strength, and yet it didn't seem that an outbreak was likely, what was driving these creatures with their Queen imprisoned, a hunger, perhaps, relentless.

Regardless the Knights would stand, against all horror, until the end, until death.
Tiredly Axex raised his sword in salute, and around him his Brother's did the same, sunlight glinted off their blades, the battle was won, but it was truly only the beginning.

The next day:

Axex glanced around, his breath smoking in the cold winter air, beside him stood one of the newest Knights, one of his Brothers who had arisen to defend the light. Beyond Jalis, Axex could see the other five Knights, proudly cleaning their swords, another undead horde defeated, another night spent committed to slaughtering the horror.

"Jalis, my brother, it is good to finally fight by your side, it has been too long since we were united" Axex spoke, saluting the Knight with his sword.
"Yes, I apologise for taking to long to heed the call, I was committed to the defence of the people of Stormguard, alas they betrayed me, and left to found their own area, mad with hunger for power" Joel replied, grimly. "It is our duty to defend humanity, regardless of how they view us, it has always been this way and always will, our oath extends beyond mortal conceptions of time, and our death shall not be reached until we succeed in forever destroying the forces of evil," Axex replied,
"I understand this better now, and I know now that I shall forever stand beside you, my sword raised in the defence of innocents, regardless of their perceptions."

Axex nodded once, Jalis regarded honour as highly as any Radiant, and recent events troubled him, it was good to have him here, where he belonged, together they would once again rebuild the Hall of the Radiants and bring glory to the order. Sheathing his sword Axex slowly strode back towards Fort Stormblessed, his feet crushing the bones of defeated skeletons, rising dust into the air. Arthur and Marcus nodded to him grimly as he entered the Fort, their own armour barely repaired from the battle before, blood still visible on their gauntlets. They would meet in the Great Chamber and feast, for they had earned, every last one.

Axex

Lord of House Hawklight
Several Days Later:

The last Radiant had been discovered at last, they were united, powerful once again, nine swords united in the ultimate protection against the evil hunting the lands of Altera. Fighting from throughout the Kingdom each Radiant vowed to defend humanity and life regardless of the cost to himself. The Hall of the Radiants was ever expanding, and every day it returned to its former glory before the end of the Great War against the armies of Naught...

High Radiant Axex sat tiredly on his throne, the events of the past few days greatly wearied him. More and more monsters were pouring over the border, and each night the Radiants fought tirelessly to push the horde back. In fact, it was only the miraculous skill of each Radiant that sustained the Northern border against the forces of evil. Other Radiants patrolled the South, acting individually to defeat as much of the vile monsters as possible. Here in the North though the fighting was intensely fierce, and it took multiple Radiants fighting side by side to shed enough blood to sustain the strength of the Kingdom.

In front of him sat three other tired Radiants, Percival, Auros and Simon de Montfort, the newest Radiants to rise against the darkness. They had been fighting nonstop since they reached the Northern Fortifications. Indeed Axex was amazed at the skill they had displayed in fighting the horde. Each day the Order grew strong, finally becoming a match for the enemies, no matter how tiring the battle was, they did not lose an inch of ground..

Finally, Axex spoke, his gaze sweeping the vast chamber, "Knights, fellow Radiants, I thank you, for your sacrifice, and commitment to this order, it is only due to your courage, that we maintain our strength each and every day, alone we were divided, weakened, at last we are together and strong, unbreakable in our resolve"

He glanced at Simon, and laughed silently, his skills with a bow were uncanny, fast, and dead accurate, Simon had yet to miss a target he had aimed at, his bow accounting for vast amounts of the enemy. Axex chuckled, he could never hope to achieve such a high degree of achievement with the bow, having spent his entire life devoted to the art of the sword. It was an honour to be fighting against one so utterly committed to defending the Kingdom against the darkness.

Axex then looked towards Percival, one of the bravest, and wisest Radiants he had ever had the pleasure of working alongside, it was only his skill, and intelligence that allowed the Knights to maintain such a vast defence. His skill as a merchant only surpassed by his brilliance as a swordsman, he had held the left flank alone in the last battle, and remained utterly untouched, such was his skill with a blade.

Auros, a master of the art of redstone, unrivalled in his knowledge among the Knights, was another of the newest Radiants, brave and strong, another heroic Knight utterly devoted to the ideals and virtues of the Radiants, striving to defend against all evils.

Axex grinned, the smile breaking through his grim demeanour, these were his Brothers, his devoted comrades, and together, they would hold the kingdom, and uphold their honour, fighting ceaselessly until the evil was cleansed from the land. They were, The Knights Radiant.
