Backstory:
Part 1: The cause

"The past is everything. It defines who you are."

A simple, protected life was how Atkrye witnessed childhood. An overbearing Elven mother who saw his every needs were met, and a father who did everything and anything he could to feed and protect his family. What this anything pertained, Atkrye is not entirely sure of, but it certainly put a lot of stress on his Father. He would spend long amounts of time drinking on his own, watching a fire or sitting outside.

This changed when, at the age of thirteen-still a young age for an elf, he noticed a change in his father. Going from depressed, he became violent. He beat Atkrye's mother, and Atkrye once or twice. He left home for days, and returned angry or drunk. This continued for months, with both Atkrye and his mother too scared to do anything about it, too scared to face another assault. Atkrye was forced to work in the local Lord's fields to keep the family fed, and never finished any schooling.

Returning from home one night to see his mother lying unconscious on the floor, blood from her mouth, was enough to finally break him. Taking a knife from the kitchen, he saw his father sleeping, saying a short prayer, slit his throat.

His mother did not survive the night. The damage was done.

When Atkrye awoke the morning after, his parents' blood on his clothes, he heard a roar of shouts outside his door. A mob stood outside, jeering;
"Hang the murderer!"

He stumbled outside to find out what was happening, and was grabbed by the mob who beat him until he blacked out.

The trial was short. His neighbor had seen him kill his father through his window. They assumed he killed his mother too.
"I sentence you to hanging for the murder of your parents. You will be dead by sundown tomorrow.", the acting judge, and town leader, announced.

Atkrye said nothing, there was nothing to say.

"It is not until you are pushed to the brink of your existence that you truly discover yourself"

Part 2:The light
"Pain is but an obstacle to overcome"

Atkrye trembled in his cell. He had 2, maybe 3 hours until he was taken outside to be hung. He was scared, he was lonely, and he was above all mournful. His mother was gone, his home was probably already burnt by the mob, and he was about to be publicly killed for something he didn't do.

"It isn't right. It isn't right", he repeated over and over to himself. His fury at what had happened fluctuated, growing and falling like waves on a beach. His hands were bloodied from punching the wall in a fit of anger, and two of his toes had broken when he tried to break out by fitting through some bars and got stuck.

"You are correct boy. It isn't right", a voice from the cell next door said, startling Atkrye; "I am Walter DeGrey of The Inquisition. You showed great courage, taking vengeance upon your father like that. You have... the attributes we are looking for."

"What do you mean, looking for?", responded Atkrye.

"There is not time to explain. Come with me, and we will show you a new way to live your life, free of mis-justice."

With a flick of his wrist and the glittering of a blade, Walter broke two bars of Atkrye's cell out, allowing Atkrye to climb through.

"Come with me boy. I will show you The Inquisition."

"True justice will always show through"

Part 3:The Teachings
"Your knowledge is your power"
What Atkrye was taught in the Inquisition will never truly be certain. He learnt their ideologies, they're techniques, they're fighting style and they're history. News of his name spread throughout the Inquisition as the fastest learning child to ever join the order.

At the age of 18, he was already shadowing an Inquisitor, William DeGrey, working with him in the criminal underground and seeking out cultists of the Shadowy Following of Shaklir, a fake god, and extracting their knowledge of the cult's plans using the Inquisitor's favourite method-torture.

Atkrye witnessed horrific things, but the actions always got results. No matter how hard the opponent, they always cracked under the extreme techniques of the Inquisition.

It was here he learnt the true nature of the Inquisition. They were to use any method, take any path, cross any line they needed to destroy evil.

It was a nature with which he fell immediately in love with. From his childhood he had learnt that if it involves saving innocents, it must be done. If he had killed his father earlier, perhaps his mother might have made it. Perhaps he might still be at home with his mother.

He took no joy when he broke the mind of his first cultist, but he felt no remorse either. The knowledge of the cultist led them to the fake god Shaklir, really a person covered in white powder and blood-and remarkably bad at fighting Atkrye mused-, which let them finish the cult off for good.

"Atkrye," William said slowly after they had slain Shaklir, "You are ready to join the inquisition."

"The mind is a fortress you must lay siege to"

Part 4:The Path of The Inquisitor
"There is no freedom of thought around an Inquisitor"

And so, Atkrye became an Inquisitor. He was inducted into the inner circle of the organisation and was given his first task:
Travel to a far off land, who's capital is Altera. Here, seek out the demons, the witches and the evil. Destroy them in the name of good, and build a branch of the Inquisition from which to maintain control of evil. Once the land has been purged and purified, return to The Inquisition.
-William DeGrey
Here, he found a friend in Billian, leader of a town called Copper Cove. Billian was strong willed and powerful- an ideal friend for the Inquisitor, and more importantly, pure of mind.

He and Billian travelled the land, and together they founded a mighty city, named Ascension with two more unique individuals; Turu Kael, a man of few words but great creativity and The Castellan, a like minded paladin who also fought to rid the world of evil.

Time passed, and Atkrye learnt magic at Uthrandir, and made discoveries in the subject of Illusion. He gathered his knowledge, he counted his friends, he stockpiled his weapons.

The time was coming. The Purge of Altera was soon to begin.

"Evil must be purged"

Part 5:The First Encounter With the Werewolf
"A friend is someone who hasn't tried to kill you yet"

A strange wounded figured stumbled under the archway of Ascension Height's. He proclaimed his name was Itzza, of Valkyria, then collapsed.

Rushing forward, Atkrye, Billian, Castellan and Turu, ran to help him. They pulled up his sleeves, to reveal 4 deep bite marks on his fore arm.

"I recognise these marks" whispered the Castellan, "He's a werewolf, for sure"

They dragged him inside, and laid him to rest in the guest house. He needed it, because they had a few questions for him in the morning.

"Who are you?" "Where are you from?" "What is that bite from?" "Why have you come here?", were all replied with confused responses which could not be interpreted by any of the 4 leaders of Ascension.

Suddenly, the man, Itzza, perked up: "I'm Itzza of Valkyria. I seek refuge from my home. Please.. please just let me stay.. just for a few days"

A few moments later, after much murmering, it was agreed that for now, Itzza would be allowed to stay.

Despite his predictions staying for a few days, Itzza remained in ascension for years, and turned into a trusted member of the town and a close friend of Atkrye. They built together, they hunted together and they worked together. Odd behaviour such as dissapearing on nights were overlooked by Atkrye, as he was not as vigilant against his friend.

But then it all changed. Small disagreements turned to snide remarks. Snide remarks turned to arguments. Arguments turned to violent spouts of insults. Within days, Billian and Itzza's friendship had broken down to nothingness, and Atkrye was caught in the middle of it.

Torn of who to side with, he remembered his training, and what he was hear to do. He was hear to purge evil, and he needed to acquire powerful friends to do it. As it stood, Billian was in more power than Itzza. The choice was so simple, but so hard.

Atkrye found it tough breaking it to Itzza, and Itzza took it equally as badly.

Then, as they sat silent, not knowing what to say to each other, there was a glimmer of moonlight through a window. Itzza looked around, startled.

"No! no, no, no, not now!" He panicked and ran out of the room.

Startled, Atkrye followed him, but could not see where he went. It was then that he heard the deafening howl from above him.

The guard tower, he thought, There's something on the guard tower!

He ran up the stairs, to the roof. It was empty.

Bang! Something hit him square on the back of the head. He slipped, but rallied and drew his sword whilst spinning to face his attacker. In-front of him stood a hulking beast. It bared it's razor sharp teeth at Atkrye, then charged at him head first, and Atkrye charged back.

Both dodged each other with exceptional speed, neither seeming able to land a hit on the other, until Atkrye finally broke the deadlock and glanced the beast on the arm with the but of his sword.

It stumbled, and taking this opportunity, rushed his opponent. There was a flash of fur, and he was off the ground, being lifted by his throat.

The monster tossed him to the ground like a ragdoll, and loomed over him, ready to strike the final blow. He raised his claw, and Atkrye prepared for the end.

But the beast hesitated, and it's eyes widened, as if it knew Atkrye. Suddenly Atkrye made the connection between this and what Castellan had first said when they found Itzza in the archway.

"Itzza?"

All of a sudden, they were bathed in light as the sun rose over the mountain. Atkrye was blinded by the light, and once he could see again, he could see Itzza, fleeing into the distance. He did not have the strength to call after him.

"Evil is not always in it's most obvious place"

Thanks :) Sorry its been a while haha
Part 6: The Inner Battle
"The battle of the mind is as important as the battle of the body"

Reeling from the loss of his close friend, Itzza, Atkrye went into a dark depression. He had let his guard drop. He had opened up his defences to the creatures of the night, and worst of all; he hadn't suspected a thing.

His mind raced with the teachings of the inquisition;

"All creatures of the night are foes. Zombies, skeletons, vampires, werewolves, giant spiders. All are enemies of the Inquisition."

"The closest to you are almost always the most deceitful."

"Friends are but enemies in disguise."

"Beasts and demons do not have emotions. Do not allow them to convince you otherwise."

And as these solemn words ran through his head, a great anger grew in his chest. He had betrayed his master. He had betrayed his followers. He had betrayed the Inquisition.

He had betrayed himself.

To have allowed himself to become so close to the thing he had sworn to destroy. To share food and drink with the very thing that he had once dreamt of slaying.

Honour-less and ashamed, he packed up his things. The sword the Inquisition had gifted to him, a few clothes and some pieces of crusty bread.

And with these meagre belongings, he left Ascension Heights. He did not even look back to see his friends calling after him for his return.

As he walked, a single tear crawled it's way down his rugged, worn face.

"Show no fear, show no weakness, show no emotion"

Part 7: The Founding of the Crusade
"Friendship can be your most powerful ally, or your greatest foe"

It had been several years since Atkrye had last seen the mighty Arch of Ascension Heights. So long, he could not remember it in more detail than the material it was made from.

He had been there on a witch hunt- what turned out to be a wild goose chase- but had stuck to the shadows. He could not bear to face his friends again.

Since he had left what he considered to be his home city, he had followed a new path. He had gathered like-minded individuals from the people of Altera. Among the chosen few were those who had lost loved ones to evil, and those who had been scarred by the forces of evil themselves- mentally or physically.

With his ragtag group of unstable, but devoted followers, he founded a new order. The Inquisition of Altera, based on a lonely Island out at sea, had forged themselves a citadel, from which to strike out at any they considered heretical or evil.

From some of the more wealthy of the Inquisitors, Atkrye had gained funding, which he used to commission a fortress impenetrable to the forces of Grief or any others who would stand against them. Under the mighty citadel, he crafted a dungeon reminiscent of the dungeons of the Inquisition where he was taught, and here he taught his followers the true ways of the Inquisition.

They operated with subtlety and stealth. They grabbed witches and heretics from their beds in the night, and forced them to talk. They took out many a cult of those who follow Evil Gods- often without losing a man.

As time passed, Atkrye regained his confidence in his emotions. He allowed himself to befriend two of his followers; Oferail and Kurt of Brustenburg. He found these two to be the finest swordsmen and interrogators he had ever met, respectively. With these two on his left and right side, executing his orders and dealing with some of the minor issues that Atkrye would otherwise have to deal with, Atkrye was able to devote himself once again to the ways of the Inquisition.

At first he found it hard, inflicting pain on his prisoners, but after he got his first result- information obtained from one of the prisoners leading to the capture of a wanted Warlock- he soon found himself getting back into it.

It was not long before he began to enjoy it once more. He relished the thought of a new prisoner arriving, so that he could descend upon the prisoner with his tools and crack open their mind.

It was also not long before others began to notice.

Oferail and Kurt, the two he considered close to him, confronted him. They accused him of abandoning his values and taking pleasure where he should only find pain. It was here that Kurt said something that struck deep in Atkrye's heart. With his heavy, resonating voice, he quietly and calmly, but with an anger set deep within his voice, said:

"You are no better than those you have sworn to fight."

Dragged by his hands and knees, he was thrown from the Citadel, banished and never to return. The Inquisition of Altera reformed itself- dividing itself into three suborders:

The Inquisitors, led by Kurt. They kept the practises of the Inquisition but Kurt ensured they never went as far as Atkrye, and maintained the kindness to prisoners had equal power as cruelty. Kurt took on the name of Wulfspider, a name given to him by his associates due to his use of animals in his line of work.

The Crusaders, led by Oferail. Oferail gathered the strongest and fastest out of the old order, and formed them into an elite fighting force, for countering the forces of evil on the field. Oferail became known as the Crusader Genesis-a person renowned for showing people the light and

The Paladins, led by the Kulimastea. Kulimastea was nominated by Zanros of the Paladin order of Altera as a representative in the Citadel for the Paladins. Kulimastea's name translates literally as Holy Freedom, a name that has stuck with him at The Crusade. Holy Freedom has maintained the Spiritual side of the orders, gathering those who truly followed Korigon and purest in mind.

Together, these three groups became known as The Crusade, and their Citadel became The Hall of Korigon, a place devoted to the defeat of evil and the following of Korigon.

Outcast and alone, Atkrye realised not only the error of his ways, but the errors of the Inquisition. He saw that the Inquisition was not a place of Good, but a place just as bad as the people it was against. It offered to fight evil with pain and suffering, and contradicted itself at every corner.

Atkrye swore to never again follow the teachings of the Inquisition.

"These are the teachings of the Inquisition. Follow them, and they will guide you."

Part 8: The Rebirth
Follow the voice.. for it will guide you

He was lost. He was alone. He was afraid. For days, Atkrye had wandered this dark forest, starved of food and refusing to drink water.

He wanted to die.

After he had been removed from The Crusade, his thoughts had spiralled out of control. He thought of marshalling his friends to face the Inquisition, in all its dark teachings. He thought of hunting down his old friend, Itzza, and asking for his forgiveness for the thoughts that Itzza never knew he had. He even considered going into the centre of Port Silver, and thrusting a blade through his chest, just so that everyone would know of his demise. So that they would know they were free of the judgemental eyes of the cruel Inquisitor.

Follow the call.. Or the darkness will consume you

Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw a white flash move through the trees. A shadow darted across a clearing. Something was watching him.

He bellowed at the top of his voice for his follower to reveal itself. He swung his sword wildly at the surrounding trees trying to catch the mysterious presence.

A whine. That was the only noise in the forest. The birds stop chirping and the wind stopped flowing, for just a moment, so that the lone sound in the entire wood was this quiet whine.

Atkrye pushed his way through the bushes towards the whine, his sword at the ready. As he burst out, ready to strike, he was amazed at what he saw.

A wolf- proud and majestic with a thick fur and attentive eyes sat in a small clearing, with a small loaf of bread hanging from a small leather collar that was wrapped loosely around it's neck. It got up slowly, and approached Atkrye, before lowering itself before him and rolling over, offering the load of bread to Atkrye.

The wolf beside him, Atkrye ate the bread and built a small fire. He spent the night staring at the stars, captured by this moment of pure peacefulness. It was the closest to nature Atkrye had ever been.

Sleep young one, the forest awaits you in the morning

When Atkrye awoke, he found his skin had gone a pale green, and a his clothes had turned into a layer of leaves wrapped around his body. He felt renewed. A powerful surge ran through his body. He could feel the forest surrounding him. He could hear the trees whisper, and the grass tingle in the wind. He felt the movements of the swaying branches above him and the determined search for water of the roots below. A trance overtook him, and for a second or two he felt like he was the forest- he could feel every part of it. Every movement within it.

He felt alive.

A crack of a bird landing on a weak branch shook him out of it. The wolf had gone, and his fire had burnt out.

He sat up, confused. He had no idea what had happened to him and was even more lost than before.

"Calm young one. You are home."

Out of the forest came a tall slender figure, with clothes and skin, like his, and a striking white beard and hair. Beside him sat the same wolf from the night before.

"My wolf here led me to you. He is a loyal friend of mine."

"I am Turu Kael. The last wood elf of this forest. It seems as though my kin have claimed you too, young one."
