Actually Trying Art

This is all super old and bad stuff lol, move to the 4th page to find the more up to date stuff. xD

I had an old thread where I literally made the worst things I could imagine but I've recently wanted to actively try actually doing art now that I have a touchscreen computer- its a lot easier so I've been practicing and getting some tips from Cukie1 and using Vincentius 's thread for inspiration. Some of this'll be from that, some my own trying to actually do stuff. I use poses for stuff so if you're wondering why the line art at least looks semi decent that's why.

Cartoony plain mermaid I made for the weekly art thing, its not the worst but lacks detail.

Asked a friend to give me something to draw and he chose literally the most complicated thing he could find; super messed up and kinda sloppy compared to the first but whatever. Also clawless because I can't do that in detail. :' )

I also use a really shitty free program so that's why it looks weird. If you know of something else I can use till I can put in some cash for an actual program let me know. Gonna start doing some more simple stuff till I can get a grip on what I'm capable of. Also tips or suggestions on things to try first, I'm all ears.

Tried Sai while I sorted out Photoshop- did something pretty simple and made a chibi of Arcana 's Lilith. Was fun and I don't hate it. Eyes are not perfectly the same size but whatever. Was also in a rush to get ready for work so hair quickly shaded.

Tried it- has a lot of good tools that are super useful but seems to have a bit of a learners curve. But after trying I've actually become a bit lenient on it. Still on the fence between it and Sai

Also more shitwork I've been practicing ooon. Been doing less 'tracing' and more visual inspiration so that's why line art has degraded but I've heard I'll learn more this way.

Used FireAlpaca for this one, I like the brushes and shading is weird but oddly enough intentional. Depressing but hey its what I wanted to try.

Went back to Sai for this one and realized how much I liked the tools better in the one above. Hmm. Cukie1 's char Lillium.

Maybe one day I'll have an actual style, for now these seem all over the place :' )

Zark'ses, though I realized mid way through my attempt at a serious expression, more looks like he is constipated... whoops. But I didn't use a ref for this one. Hair is janky as hell.

Really digging this style- did one for Zark'ses- face isn't exactly how he is IC but it was fun to try. : ) Did this one and the one above with FireAlpaca so I'm really liking that tool.

holy shit! i'm seriously impressed by the digital stuff dude.

It really helped me to just copy (not trace, etc) art when I started doing digital because I got a good feel for anatomy and could branch out my style from there. I am really liking where this is going :^ )
