Written Test!
Farmland had captured most of the valley, families and towns prospered as they centralized themselves in the middle of the fields. It was a peculiar affair to watch from the high rising mountains that hugged around the new settlement. For a simple goat, it brought too much complexity to life. Watching the villagers come and go from their shelters same time everyday, it was just unnatural. But to see such life in so much quantity was a blessing, thought the goat. Perhaps the people would have children come spring, he thought. So the goat remained on his mountains, blissfully watching upon the people.
It was a loud splintering echo coming up from the valley which had awakened the goat from his sleep in. To his dismay, the goat watched as the people began to destroy the life of the valley. They had begun to kill the trees which littered the base of the mountains. But the goat could do little from up high, little but stamp his hooves.
By nightfall the goat wept as the people had culled no less than fifteen of the great oaks, homes to hundreds of lives. With no one else to turn to the goat looked to his Goddess, Shalherana. But she gave no solace to the goat, only his warming grasp of anger.
Like the past few mornings the townsfolk awoke from their homes, gathered their tools and approached the edge of their fields. Before them were the fallen great oaks and high reaching mountains, that were now beginning to cap themselves in frost. They chortled directions to one another and raised their axes to the last of the oaks that was standing. But with a grunt and a mighty thump the first axe did not fall upon the oak, and the mountains grew colder as the ice queen swept by her presence.
The people had gathered by the foot of the mountain, surrounding the fallen axe. They had all brought with them poles, pitchforks, and torches. Though they huddled against each other in the cold, but one stood firm beside the axe and shouted anger at them. Before long the goat watched as the whole of the people began to shout anger back at the other. Looking up to the mountain the townsfolk took on a fiery mass as they all lit their torches and shed the flames to one another.
When the goat had reached the peak of the mountain he did not stop and he kept on walking until the angry chants of the people could no longer be heard. He cleaned his horns and peered out for his Goddess again, but she gave the goat no solace.
Current Setting of the Server:
As the last galleys pull into port from the Northern Kingdoms, so too do they mark the end of the Exodus. A dark and desperate chapter in Altera's history.
The undead swarms had battered us, and the Sea of Storms had bruised us, yet here we were, alive. Alive in a brave new frontier to the east, and the flickering embers of our dying lands were now kindling the fires of new civilization, in a land of opportunity, vast and boundless.
Now, for the first time in a long time, there is hope. Hope of a new chapter, a new beginning and a clean slate. Yet there is also fear. Fear of the land unknown, and the danger untold. There is fear that, in spreading the light, we draw the ire of what lies in the shadows.
But no matter the opinions on the subject, there is one thing that may be said for certain.

About Your Character!
This section is about the character you intend to use once you join the server. We ask that new players follow these guidelines during this portion of the application:
- Characters begin with basic skills and gear. No advanced armor or weaponry. Skills and abilities are appropriate to a novice level. Skills should be learned through roleplay, not through backstory.
- Characters fit the lore. If you choose to play as a Moor Elf, for example, we expect appearance and details to be fitting with base lore.
- Characters cannot use magic in any way. The test itself should not mention magic either. HollowWorld uses a restricted magic system and it is only accessible to those who find and learn from a teacher in-game.
- Tests should not be violent. No murder, killing, death, torture. In the past, 8 out of 10 applications featured characters fighting off bandits or slaying passersby. We don't want to see how well you can script a fight scene. We want to see how well you can tell a story, how well you can roleplay.
- Be creative and be original. Do not use tests/characters whose home villages were burned, parents murdered, and then set off to be an orphan assassin. It has been done before. Please don't do it again.
- Written portion of the test is required to be a 400 word minimum. If the test doesn't meet the minimum, Staff may ask you to extend the test before the application is considered.
