He was a kind soul. A friendly sort that she imagined she would rather enjoy talking to on those lonely afternoons in the library when no one bothered to come in. That is, if she ever got over her fear of the place. Though, there was very little that wasn't afraid of these days. Insects. She had a particular aversion to those in the arachnid category. Loud noises. They always startled her, making her jumpy for the rest of the day. Fortune tellings. Of course, he was the only one to have ever told her fortune. But the reading scared her a little bit. It scared her because it painted an almost hopeful future and she was terrified that it would turn out to be wrong.
The card representing her past, he explained, was in reference to an event that caused great stress for her. Either a lack of, or an excess of long-term vision that caused an imbalance. Perhaps that was true. Her single-minded obsession with that blasted manuscript and her lofty aims to learn Altera's languages. She had been so utterly focused that she found a significant amount of stress related to it. Yes. Perhaps that card was true. But then, the card representing her present alluded to her inability to change. That unless she stopped resisting the change, she would continue to feel trapped. She would never be able to move forward in her life. Her mind fluttered to the two Divines she found herself caught between. Trapped between them and unable to accept either one.... But the future card. She had dark expectations. With the pregnancy, and the darkness of her curse, she had gone to him expecting the blackest card in his deck. Instead, it was a card foretelling a big decision that needed to be suspended. One that would be wise to think over carefully. A decision that would be best to stall if possible, and that the best decision would perhaps be that of a selfless one. A choice to let go and choose sacrifice for a higher goal. As they spoke of the card, both of them agreed it was not a bad card. Perhaps saying that everything would be alright in the end.
Yes... She was afraid of fortune tellings because she was afraid of the future she saw for herself. She hoped his divinations were true. She wished with everything in her that everything would be alright. If his mystic insights were correct, then maybe, just maybe, everything would be......
