I have never in my life found the wreckage ships that supposedly spawn so often. I feel like throwing some derelict other ships about is the best course of action. Maybe have a bunch of prefabricated-style abandoned small mining bases. Would be interesting to see how people turn them into things like ships and the like.
Yea would probably be the best cause of action, they dont despawn anyway and just to make sure I could add them all to the same faction "Wreckage" as a failsafe

If you plan on putting them in a faction it will make using anything like doors and the reactors a real nuisance unless it's changed since I last played

Maybe factioning things that would realistically be locked like main controls and important room's doors. That way salvaging is a more time-exhausting process, but not so much as the inconvenience of deconstructing every cargo container and reactor, getting what it drops, and rebuilding it.

Anyone seen the new game Duskers? I want ship scavenging and boarding to be like that, some places locked down and accessible from different places etc

Update: Jaypate and I have established the framework of the storyline and I have developed a prototype for the colonizer/transport vessel, the Flame of Oran, that we would all be starting on and if the current plan is put to work likely fracture into opposing factions over, along with some more secret designs for use- ones that may or may not be used at all. Speaking of factions, I was wondering whether there were some good ideas floating around for the following storyline what-nots:

What real world nations remain? The Remnant Navy will be a significant faction, but we have yet to decide what nation it is from and what other nations were around to justify it's existence. Personally, I was thinking it would be along the lines of a post-NATO coalition with a left wing union of several Earth nations forming together to oppose the formerly mentioned coalition in it's dominance of space. Naturally, as the system we will be in will have formerly been under Coalition control, this Union would not be a significant force immediately, assuming we go with my idea. Either way, if you have some input it would be great.

What caused society to break down? This is the hard one. I really don't have much to say besides that it must meet the following criteria:
A: Interstellar communications and trade must have broken down (ie. we cannot contact Earth or any other significant place for assistance. And no W40k style Warp Storms either. Considered it. That's probably not how the jump drives work, and I do point out that jump drives need to still work, again, for secret reasons.)
B: The system we are in, and to some extent more advanced colonies like Earth, must be free of crippling destruction (ie they can't be outright destroyed. My first thought was plague, but a disease would be quite easy to contain in the vacuum of space, I would think.)
C: Society must have been fractured to the point of throwing humanity back into the Dark Ages.
D: No aliens. You'll see why. Probably. Maybe not. Only if my ideas are made canon. Woah, I just realized we have a canon. Cool.
In general, think of it like this: you're from a really big and rich nation like the US. This nation is paying you and a bunch of people to go by boat overseas to go and build a city in a far-away region your nation owns, possibly with you only intended to be gone temporarily and leaving loved ones behind. While you are in transit, civilization breaks down and both your destination (which is essentially abandoned) and your home (thrown into massive destruction as dark age resource wars ensure.) What caused this collapse? Keep in mind you're free to add as much fluff as you feel is needed to justify your ends: if it's over someone making a back room trade agreement to work around another nation, which causes a global destabilization, just have the explanation of what resource it is and at least a basic idea of how it went down. Or just shout asinine scenarios until someone formulates an idea in their littered grey matter. I really got nothing on this part.

Finally, I'd just like to ask what people would prefer to start with:
A: Individual small personal-transport crafts (perhaps which could be converted into other things [fighters, freighters, etc] )
B: A single large ship (per faction) to be used as a base, still allowing for future creation of individual crafts
C: A better idea

Oh and just so you know, thus far I can confirm a few mods are likely to make it in, mostly aesthetic ones. I'll link them to get your opinions if you are so inclined to investigate them, and tell me if there are any we should look at.

I'm sort of on the fence with this next one; I really like the idea, but it's just...clunky, to say the least, what with the current HUD

I am personally a huge fan of this next one, however so far as I can tell it's not working so well currently.

On a personal note my Steam ID is now the same as my name on here, Ray1333, so shoot me a friend request some time.

EDIT: Removed the repeat of the Sage desk and added the commercial LCD screen pack (no idea how I missed such an important mod before)
ADDITION: Found this piece of beauty:

Brace thineselves. The project commences.

Allright, a couple of prototype flags (background Nationstates experience finally coming to use) and prototype pre-apocalypse nations. Criticize in minute detail, please. Except about the second flag, I know it's awful. Actually, second flag is officially a placeholder, feel free to submit your own design for the IPOSS, I just ask it keeps a Red/White color scheme so I don't have to repaint the IPOSS ships I have already made. I'm a little proud of the first one though, came out way better than expected. Keep in mind in this prototype history, there were two Dark Ages of the Modern Era: the one following the collapse of the UN, OPEC, and several other powers, and the one going on in our scenario. The former ended after a decade of petty warlords and resource wars from the death throes of super powers. By the time it ended, civilization had both advanced on an overall level and degraded immensely on an individually level. With oil and other fossil fuels gone, along with the vast majority of the industries which stood before the fatal day of 2038, electricity at the scale we know could only be produced in massive facilities, with the smallest form being in house-sized nuclear power plants, a technology not to be rediscovered for years and unable to be constructed to a reasonable degree for years. Individuals now lived, due to this and various other factors, live in a technologically-devoid shell of former life resembling the medieval Dark Ages more than the far gone era the newly formed UGTO attempts to recreate in it's death throes. It took up until the year 2112 for a semblance of pre-resource wars society, and plunge humanity into it's last success: space colonization. While this achievement is in the shadow of a new cold war, it lies as the final testament to what humanity can accomplish. The details of the events preceding the end of civilization, taking place during the players' ship's transit to what was supposed to be their new home.

The Union of Global (interchangeably, Galactic) Trade Organizations
In the wake of the collapse of the UN, the NATO and EU merged into a superpower to oppose both the rising chaos in regions previously occupied by the, at that point the highly militarized and increasingly far-right Peacekeeping Army, the remainders of said army now turned warlords, and the new opposition forming from the Pact.
View attachment 69582
The International Pact of Organized Socialist States
Formed in the wake of the UN collapsing, in a different regard. While the UGTO was formed from powerful western powers attempting to retain some semblance of their former extent in a world slowly descending into petty resource wars and civil collapses in regions that were entirely docile a mere few years earlier, the IPOSS formed from the power vacuum formed by the collapse of nations like China and Russia in the wake of their devastating wars with the OPEC mercenary forces (who turned upon their former employers once their source of income quite literally dried up, ending up becoming yet more warlords in this new, grim Dark Ages.) What set them apart initially, in the waning years of the UN, was the fact of their basis of power. While the petty warlords gained power through squabbling over scraps of military surplus from before the great powers of the old world, the early IPOSS, at that time known as the Communist Union of New Mongolia, succeeded through gaining widespread support from the civilian populations in anarchic regions and bringing down the petty warlords of their first Dark Age through little more than pure numbers, and dodging UN "Peacekeeping" efforts. They later grow into a substantial alliance of several fledgling nations, and become the sole competitor in interstellar colonization against the UGTO.

If you got a better idea for any of the above, feel free to suggest it. I am running on a sleep-deprived creativity and it shows most in the UGTO lore and IPOSS flag, both of which shall be extended upon and likely replaced entirely in the not-so-distant future.

EDIT: Replaced the IPOSS flag with the new and improved IPOSS 2.0 FLAG! Now with Technicolor®! Old flag left attached, in case anyone gets curious as to what it was. New designs for the flag are still welcome, as I still admit the new one isn't the greatest.

Next patch will be next Thursday unless they do decide to implement a micro-fix between the weekly patches.

It has just occurred to me that I may have accidently created Warhammer 40K without the Warp or aliens.

I've been building on a lake in single player when the others are not on, been experimenting with a lot more of the engineers advanced gameplay mechanics, solar arrays that track the sun larger land vehicles that do more. As well as base layout designs that make a fool proof network against metor showers. I should be ready to show it off soon.
