Do not update to 1.2

with windows seven you can restore previous versions go to the file %appdata% click .minecraft you will see the bin folder right click it then click properties then in the file it will have a slot saying previous versions you can choose the file you want say from the day before 1.2 then copy all the files in it then exit.
then go back to %appdata% and doubleclick the bin delete everything in it and paste the files you copied

Did you click to update? If so it'll do the same thing.

Nothing came up about an update, it just started downloading everything on its own

Zombies/Skeletons weren't burning in sunlight and birch and pine trees weren't spawning... Light wouldn't exist past a certain height and any mobs spawning at height something something something the game would crash So he updated
