Written Test!
It was not until I felt the touch of cold water on my face that I realized the gravity of my condition. In the time I had spent wandering, the heat and the drought had taken its toll on my physical wellbeing, and the sharp sting of the sun had left my vision impaired.
It was not until late in the evening as the sun was setting that I came across a familiar sight; A lone pillar made from reddish marble. The size alone was truly formidable, considering that it had evidently stood taller in the past, and even now it’s shadow stretched beyond my line of sight. For the first time I allowed my legs to succumb to the weight of my body, and as I sat there on my knees I began to dig away at the sand, revealing a smooth, flat marble surface similar in color to the pillar that towered above me.
I was ecstatic. Eager as I was I reached into my satchel to find my rake - it was hardly a thing of beauty, but it was sturdy. Combing over the sandy surface I slaved away for hours upon hours, but I was eventually forced to seek shelter behind the pillar as the wind took hold and sent the sands flying. As the sun rose and the landscape became visible to me once again it looked like an entirely different place altogether, the lone pillar being the only recognizable feature. At this point I had come to terms with the hard truth that I would likely have to leave this place empty-handed once again, and so once I had determined which direction was the right one I started making my way back from whence I came.
I rummaged through my satchel in an effort to find my canteen, and that’s when it dawned to me that the rake wasn’t in there with the rest of my things. I went searching for it. But after an hour’s time I gave up hope of finding it again, seeing as it was likely buried somewhere under a mountain of sand. Frustrated, I turned around and headed back in the direction of the pillar where I had left my satchel, but in an unexpected turn of events I tripped and fell to my knees. It was then and there that I saw it for the first time, glimmering in the sand; my chance to leave this place for good.
