for style and history i think it should be an old ancient town that has been inhabited by locals for centuries. kinda like windhelm in skyrim but in your own style. there could be underground crypts where small rooms could be rented for living or storage. these underground crypts would be fairly simple and inexpensive to build and would create more space for building. there could even be a small underground fighting club or a pub. if you like any ideas i would love to help out.
