The Great Game

Welcome, mesdames and messieurs!
(ladies and gents)
Allow moi to introduce to you the Great Game of imperial succession! We will, with this life-long ''tournament'' of sorts, determine the strongest, most-witted and most well-skilled ruler to ultimately succeed (but not for long... ;) ) to the founding Imperator Arthorius I Lavoyard. Of course, this game, as you'd expect, is subject to change slightly or drastically following multiple events, possibilities and actions made by participants, bystanders and observers. This is all in the hope of creating a /very/ dynamic system, where everyone has fun being ruthless nobles! Of course, there is an alternative available, which I will discuss shortly, don't panic! The Great Game is a means, both OOC and RP wise, to channel people's curiosity and interest into playing this (some could say.. wicked) ''match'' of proportions of life or death!

First, the Succession Ledger!

Down in the reserved first post shall be set the official Succession list, which is going to be update everytime someone change position (..its going to be painful...). It is long, and it meant to make sense! Basically, there will always be, should the Imperator and his nearest heirs be endangered, several who hold claims that could be pressed on the Throne. Said list is, as stated in the introduction, very dynamic, and almost as if it represented a competition...

But how are individuals first classed and ranked?

We must sadly begin from somewhere, don't you all agree? The conditions and rules of the Great Game go as follows;

Ranking procedure:

1.The children of the current ruler will always be, unless extraordinaire conditions, be placed in the first positions in line for succession. The Legitimate children of said ruler will always come before the bastards, and, following the laws of agnatic-cognatic succession, boys will be placed before girls. However, a legitimate daughter is worth more then a bastard son, which means that the standings could very well go like 1.leg. son, 2.leg. daughter, 3.bast. son.

2. The current Ruler's Consort, or partner, will be placed following his/her children, in the line of succession. It is however worth noticing that this only applies to said consort, and not his or her entire lineage aswell.

3. It is important to notice that rule no.1 wildly depends on which Dynasty holds current power over the Realm, and is only applicable, at succession, if the Ring of Electors nominate the same Elector for the power position. If a different family is nominated, then the claimants of said elector will move from whatever position they were (may it be 5th, 12th or 35th) to the first ranks of succession.

4.Following the current leader's progeniture (children) comes siblings of the ruler and then the other family members of the ruling family. here are placed cousins, nephews, uncles and brothers/sisters of the ruler. It is important to notice that this class of standings is determined by age (concerning the other family members; Siblings > family members), now. As so, logic would be that an uncle of the Ruler would be better placed in the standings then a niece or a nephew.
Again, with all rules, boys of the same branch/family/position come before girls, ensuring they are legitimate

5.Following Crown relatives are Electorative claimants. Those are the pretenders, dukes and kings of the other electorates. Here will be placed, following the same Agnatic-Cognatic and age rules then the three first ranking procedures, going from the head of said current house and his own children to their farther ranking members.
Special rule concerning this specific procedure: To differentiate the different electors, they will here be ranked in means of power, influence, riches and plain strengh. As so, the two current largest realms, the Crowns of Haven and Marr, will, unless, again, extraordinaire conditions, have their claimant raised higher. It is also worth to notice that the Holy Church's head, the Archbishop, while the only potent claimant for the throne of his electorate, will always come after the twin Crowns. The holy Church is sanctified and recognized, and it's influence will stay, even in the Great Game.

6. Following the Elector's blood-related families comes the spouses/husband/partners of the Royal family secondary members and the Elector lords own companions. These are again classed by Agnatic-Cognatic logic, and the individuals married into the ruling family come before the individuals married to electorate lords.

7. Then, the last category concerns the non-royal, non-elector Dukes and major and minor Lords, and the military high figures. This category, now quite far in the succession list, is quite chaotic, with people bickering about weither an individual is 56th or 57th in line for the Throne. Furthermore, this category is sometimes un-accounted for, or barely taken into consideration due to it's unlikeliness to be relevant.

welp, that does it for the procedures.

But what if I don't want to have my life threatened/am bad at intrigue/ am classified especially high and dont want to participate in the Great Game?

There's a solution for you, my lord/lady! At any time, one who is considered a claimant may relinquish his/her claim and retire from the Game, should said individual feel his life threatened, or anything of the likes. However, note that one who relinquish his rights cannot simply regain them. The noble titles of said individual, may it be of the royal level, or military ranking, will not be affected, and said individual should no longer be of any danger or relevance, since everyone that used to behind him/her in the list now moves a position up.
(PROTIP: intimidating someone RP-wise (while willingly OOCly, of course) into doing this might be an interesting way to play the Game without necessarily spilling blood...)

When will this officially begin/When will the second Imperator be named?

Since Arthorius is the founder of the official realm, and the first Imperator, It will go as to say the rule of the game I am about to discuss will not apply to him. Whenever Arthorius meets his end (by whatever reason encountered then), the game will truly begin, for Arthorius has still many goals to accomplish before he can take his last breath.

In order to keep the Great Game dynamic, moving, interesting and with constant opportunities, a crowned Imperator may only (unless a formidable event occurs, such as a large war waged by the Empire) rule for an OOC Month! At the end of a month, either by dead, retirement, or voting, a new emperor /must/ be ruling. this is, be reminded, to promote dynamism in the realm! (Also, it would be amazing if we reached the coronation of like, the 36th Imperator, or something like that! )

Upon coronation, for the time of his/her rule, an Imperator/Empress will take on a name (IGN name) following this logic: --th Imperator [second name]. As an example, if by any circumstances Barthélémy Lavoyard was to gain the throne at the death of Arthorius, he would take on the name 2nd Imperator Lavoyard. even if some might dislike this little rule, I believe it's important to the stability/regularity of the Empire. After all, it only lasts a month!

More is subject to be added to this, depending on weither the current system works or not!

Please keep this in mind: This is IMPERIAL WIDE, which means it concerns not only Lavoyard, but, as stated, all the factions of the Federal Empire of Turia!

The Great Game of the Council in Kelewan...
Oh great...
Split the empire into noble families that run estates, each family plots against each other for glory and revenge in what is essentially a massive game of cloak and dagger.

The game's not even that great, and I pre-ordered it on Steam. I went to the description page and there wasn't even anything written about it. So much for being a "Great Game"
4/10 not worth the money
