Amazing art by Mudpaw11 displays from left to right: Lars, Hrothgar, Krummi, Jaret, Seth, Thrain, Erik, Thordil, Kublai.

"Hi Ho, high-king Lars, cast his golden robes away.
Said: "I don't want to be the king, but all my people follow me.""

"Hi Ho, holy Hrothgar, was a holy king of old.
In his reign, his people flourished and collected heaps of gold."

"Hi Ho, king Seth Jenkins, took the Dwarven throne by force.
He restored order to the kingdom in a time of Dwarf clan wars."

"Hi Ho, mad king Krummi, reigned under ruins old and dark.
His halls were all filled with echoes of smiths beating anvils hard."

"Hi Ho, the kin-slayer, Jaret chopped the king's head off.
Then the Dwarven people scattered, yet another reign was lost."

"Hi Ho, general Thrain, took the throne by Jaret's side.
Proud leader of the Frostpeak clan, no one dared to pick a fight."

"Hi Ho, Erik Stoneshield, took up the throne when times were hard.
He was called the iron fist, said: "here we stand, we're forged to last.""

"Hi Ho, Kharuz Kull, it ends the way as it began.
Did not want to be the king, to all his people he's a friend.

Hi Ho, Prophet Thordil, Korog's voice resounds in stone,
Crafts beyond all known perfection, let's his hammer set the tone."

HollowWorld has existed for a long time and the mere passing of time has brought something into this world unknowingly; true history. Just like history in real life, Altera has seen its shares of wars and hey days. Altera's history matters and gives depth and meaning to the roleplays in this current age. This is why I've taken it upon myself to describe the history of the Dwarves by means of the stories of each of their kings. Refer to the links below for other threads, or scroll down for the entire tale of the Dwarves. Let me know if I missed anything.

The History of The Dwarves:
"You ask about the history of the Dwarves?" The man laughs heartily. "Are you ready for an incredibly long story then?" He looks at you with one eye pinched. "I'm going to go into every detail, because I don't get to tell this story very often, since it's so lengthy." You gesture for him to get to the point already. "Fine! Fine... Now. Where do I start?"

Every story about Dwarves, you might know this, ultimately rotates around one thing: Their bloody character! Dwarves are impulsive, short-fused, they over-estimate themselves and under-estimate their opponent. Some frown upon almost every other race, others even have an innate hate towards specific races, such as the Elves. But I won't bother you with the details of that... Dwarves are greedy, yet honorable. Hard to befriend, but once befriended they are life-time partners through bitter and worse. A Dwarf can be a ruthless king or warrior, or a perfectionist craftsman or librarian. There's not much in between those though, it's either everything or nothing. Dwarves are short, bearded, half of the time bald, and most of the time fatter than needed, but loyal to a fault. Remember these traits, for also in this story they will return many a time. Ah... yes, Dwarves! They start with legends, so shall we. The legend of King Lars of Karuk-Tol...

High-King Lars Ironlung of Karuk-Thol.
King of Dwarves, Legend-King.

[Character writings/journals Link] <-- Looking for the king of dwarves

Not much is truly known about this king. All that we think we know, is passed on from generation to generation. In stories. Knowing Dwarves, they'd probably make the story a lot bigger than it is, and in their favor! But, let's go with it for once, shall we?

King Lars was said to be the greatest of all Dwarven Kings. The most honorable and the one who had the biggest clan in the history of Dwarves. It's not that no Dwarf dared to oppose him, it's that no-one wanted to! He was a king that did not need to look for Dwarves to follow his cause, they just did because they loved him. He forged a kingdom so strong, no other Dwarven clan would dispute his right to rule. His hold was called Karuk-Thol. The city where the Dwarven Vaults of Auld are said to be located. The city and the clan of King Lars were wealthy and strong.

It all sounds perfect, doesn't it? To Lars, it wasn't. King Lars never wanted to be king, nor did he think there should ever be one! "One person could never rule all of a single species across Altera." He would say. Yet, he was the first king of many more to come...

General Hrothgar SharpPick I of Thraall,
King of Dwarves, Warrior King.

[Character Journal/writings Link] <-- Hrothgar's adventures.

Lars had through the years gotten old and fat and realized he was in no shape to be a leader anymore, thus handing the crown to Hrothgar personally. Hrothgar earned his way into becoming king by the many feats of war he had performed. While King Lars ruled the lands, it was Hrothgar who banded clans together, forged a strong united kingdom, and worked years on end to construct the city of Thraall, where he'd later build his own throne.

King Hrothgar was ruler over the Dwarves of Yearnen, the largest clan in all of Altera. He had a henchman; a grumpy, war-torn Dwarf called Krimil, who was almost constantly by Hrothgar's side during his rule. Under the reign of King Hrothgar, Thraall was transformed from a small settlement into something people from all over Altera came to behold. A true world wonder! "I visited Thraall myself, you know? We were all in awe as we crossed the huge bridge from the airship and walked through the massive gatehouse!"

The people gazed at the huge statues at the entrance towards the lower town. Then, there, they almost fainted, beholding the enormous cave that the Dwarves of Yearnen carved out. The true center of Dwarven might and pride: The Shaft of Thraall. And far in the depths, there was the throne of King Hrothgar SharpPick the first.

King Seth Jenkins I of Korog's Standing,
King of Dwarves, Traditional King.

@Seth_Jenkins
[Character Writings/journal Link] <--- Thread of House of Yearnen

"Until one day... King Hrothgar disappeared." He left Thraall. Most Dwarves called it Korog's will, for nobody could possibly think of any other reason for the general, who put so much work in the city, to abandon it. While the king was away, Yearnen fell apart. This age of chaos is referred to as The Fall of Yearnen and it is the time-span in which King Seth Jenkins the First rose to power... Most Dwarves fled Thraall after sub-clans started to form within the clan of Yearnen. Dwarves started stealing from other Dwarves, killing each other, performing raids even! Three Dwarves are of particular interest in this story. These are Seth, Gromm, and Krummi.

Krummi had left Thraall under Hrothgar's reign and returned to the chaos Hrothgar had left. He saw how the Dwarves were scattered and figured it'd be best to form alliances with other races, now that his own race was at such a risk. If the enemies of the Dwarves would learn of the state Thraall was in, they'd surely seize control over the city.

In came Gromm and a few other Dwarves, who supported Krummi. They founded house Locun, a house of knowledge, preservation and debate. The most open to other races that a Dwarven House had ever been. Gromm gathered books knowledge from other races and invited representatives to the halls of Locun in Thraall, to discuss trade agreements and have peaceful conversations about their cultures.

Then, in came Seth Jenkins, parading as a warrior through the small council hall of Locun. The nationalism, patriotism, and traditionalism dripped off him as he took a seat in the council. Though somewhat frightened by his appearance, Krummi and Gromm welcomed him in the hall with gladness to see another Dwarf return to the broken city of Thraall. But Seth had no interest in the debates he attended... He rallied a large force of Dwarves to his cause and he took the throne by force. He then dismissed the council of Locun and exiled Krummi from Thraall, labelling him "undwarvish" and thus re-established a firm, traditional order in Thraall. Gromm followed Krummi with his tail between his legs. They would go forth to establish a Dwarven outpost of their own, outside of the borders of Seth's kingdom.

Under the rule of King Seth, another two Dwarven cities arose. They were called Irrcrawn and Korog's Standing. After embracing all traditional Dwarves and exiling all free-thinkers from Thraall, King Seth and his clan took up residence in Korog's Standing. From there, Seth tried to re-ignite the fire of Yearnen through very traditional means. It took him many years to construct the cities and many harsh decisions were made to forge a strong, traditionalist, conservatist Dwarven kingdom. By his side was Jaret Ironbrow...

King Krummi Stenahurr of Tahkul-Rimtar,
King of Dwarves, King under the Ruin.

@Piratep00f
[Character Journal/Writings Link] <--- Krummi's Adventures.

"Remember how the traditionalist King Seth removed all free-thinking Dwarves from his court? Well where do you think they went? To Krummi and Gromm of course!" Krummi and Gromm never disbanded house Locun. While they were banished from the birthplace of Locun, they continued what they stood for in their exile. They constructed a Dwarven Hold of their own: This castle was Tahkul-Rimtar: Book's Castle. It refers to the fact it is a stronghold, but it is there to safeguard and create knowledge, rather than hold any military purpose.

Krummi used to serve under King Hrothgar as a scientist and librarian. Now, he still took his job as librarian very serious and spent much time in the large library of Tahkul-Rimtar. It took a very long time before the idea to claim the Dwarven Crown came into Krummi's head. For a long while, Tahkul-Rimtar was merely a place for worshiping Korog, studying and meeting with other races, and gathering all possible knowledge into one place. But this changed when a great spell fell over the castle and wiped the contents of almost every hard-earned book. Scared of the magic, hurt by the loss of knowledge, and remembering Seth's Judgement, Krummi became more sour over the years. Without being aware of what he was doing, he became more and more traditional. Starting to shun other races, and letting Locun's council hall fall into decay...

He dug a new city underneath Tahkul-Rimtar, and left the upper city to crumble into a ruin. Down below, he spent all his energy on construction. A large chapel for Korog was made, along with a great hall that reminded many a visitor of the myths of Zustid and Babin. The deeper he and his Dwarves dug, the more patriotic he started to feel. In the end, he abandoned House Locun entirely and even shunned his lifelong friend Gromm to create a new house, named Yeradur. It was the symbol of restoring the old wealth of the Dwarves. Many in Altera had forgotten about the Dwarves, hiding up in Korog's Standing, never hearing news from them. Krummi felt it was his duty to restore their glory of old, which became the slogan of Yeradur. "What? You don't know their slogan? Fer 'te Glory of Auld, of course!"

Krummi took by his side as general, a Dwarf named Thrain. He was clanleader of the Frostpeaks, a warrior clan with ice-blue eyes whose descendants still roam Altera to this day. A Dwarf was sent to visit Korog's Standing, he came back with news of it being seemingly abandoned. Krummi needed not hear more. A crown was crafted and shoved onto the head of the new King Krummi. His capital? Tahkul-Rimtar. The throne-room was carved out, together with Dwarven stores, to keep their riches in. Krummi, King under the Ruin. During his rule, many Dwarves came to live in Tahkul-Rimtar. There was even a work force which was constantly carving out new hollow spaces to house the masses of Dwarves flocking to Tahkul-Rimtar.

King but no king: Jaret Ironbrow
King of Dwarves, Dear Friend, Ruthless Enemy, Kinslayer.
66428
@Lannis
[Character Writings/journal Link] <--- Epic Rap Battle of Altera featuring Jaret!

"Remember how King Seth had a general by his side as he started to create Korog's Standing? Jaret Ironbrow was first man of King Seth Jenkins. The sight alone of this Dwarf in battle would make every grown man go pale in fear!" He wielded the Warhammer Khuldas. He wore Dwarven Plates on his shoulder, his beard was rough and his voice like thundering skies. Korog's Standing had seemed abandoned, but in the depths there was yet a single fire burning... Word of Krummi's grasp to the crown had reached King Seth. Him being too weak, too old, passed the crown in an official Dwarven coronation in Korog's Standing to Jaret Ironbrow. Jaret took the crown with great pride and left the fires of his city to take a trip over to Tahkul-Rimtar.

There he walked up to the throne of Krummi Stenahurr, looking up to the self-righteous Krummi who had put his throne high above the folk who would visit. Both Dwarves wore a crown, yet there could be only one King. Krummi fumed with rage, roaring that Seth had been slacking, had been careless for his people! So Seth's right to be king was undone by his own hand and it was Krummi who's turn had come to be king. Jaret stood fast and spat back that no Dwarf could decide whether a king was worthy to be such. He lifted the crown from his head and held it high for Krummi to see; the crown of Hrothgar, passed onto Seth, now passed onto himself. He proposed to Krummi that from this day forth, there'd be two kings. One in Korog's Standing and one in Tahkul-Rimtar. The Dwarves would decide themselves who to follow.

But to Krummi, there could be only one... ONE king. As he jumped down from the throne and shouted for Jaret to leave, he lost hist temper and flung his axe at Jaret. Jaret side-stepped and the axe crashed into the wall behind him, dropping onto the ground with a loud thud. It missed the would-be King... Krummi advanced, aggressively gesturing as he approached. Jaret looked to the axe that had fell just behind him and then looked back to Krummi. He considered. Took up the axe. Then, as Krummi advanced, Jaret swung the axe across and Krummi's head went rolling...

"This would make Jaret King. But Jaret was not that kind. He was more like Krummi used to be: A free-thinker. He saw all Dwarves as equal and did not believe in kingship, as it had proven to fail time and time again as this history shows..."

King Thrain Frostpeak
King of Dwarves, Clanhead King.

@Man5791

[Character Journal/writings Link] <-- Frostpeak clan thread.

Two kings, that was what Jaret had proposed to Krummi. So it came to pass that Thrain, Krummi's general and leader of the Frostpeak clan, came to sit on the throne of Tahkul-Rimtar. Thrain, being reasonable enough to accept this proposition from Jaret, ruled together with him for a time. The crown of Krummi was molten back into a gold ingot and a new order was established. There was no longer a monarch, there were two rulers. And they created a system in which ordinary Dwarves, instead of just the king and his advisor, had the possibility to have a say in important decisions for the race.

Jaret returned to rule in Korog's Standing over the remaining Dwarves of Yearnen, while Thrain continued somewhat in Krummi's footsteps, by ruling in Tahkul-Rimtar over the Dwarves of Yeradur. "Unexpected to both, most likely, came a great corruption followed by a mass migration." The Dwarves had to leave their precious homes behind, in favor of the promise of a new land, where there would be no more corruption, no more grief. A new land, the Dwarves left behind their crown jewels; Thraall, Tahkul-Rimtar, Korog's Standing, Irrcrawn. All cities were eventually swallowed by the tentacles of corruption and the Dwarves, like all other peoples, had to start anew.

King Erik Stoneshield-Goldheart I
High-King of Dwarves, Ruler of Dunasten, The Steel Fist.

[Character Journal / Writings] <--- Dunasten Speeches

"Here, there is a gap in the Dwarven history." Decades have passed since Thrain joined Jaret in his rule. Tahkul-Rimtar, the seat of King Thrain has fallen a last time. The halls are stripped of all valuables, the ruin that stood atop the halls has been broken down and replaced by a foreign city called Reignfall. Jaret has retreated further North as years passed and nowadays nobody knows where he might linger. The Dwarves are forced towards a new land and there they are scattered once more. Even Korog has seemingly abandoned his people. This is the situation in which Erik Stoneshield and his followers find themselves.

Erik's charismatic appearance and his infatuation with the tales of the former kings and the history of his people had brought many Dwarves to his cause, even before his kingship. "He knew it all, all of it! More than I've told you here today!" He put his accurate knowledge of Dwarven History into the new capital of the Dwarves. He claimed the traditional Dwarven Grounds as his birthright and built there; Aeroch Rimtar, a hollow mountain in the far North. It would become a testimony of his love for his people. Dwarven legacy literally carved into the rock. With many links to the Dwarven lore, such as the past kings, Korog's holy influence, forgotten Dwarven towns and the long lost mythos.

Erik's kingship came naturally. As effort into the building the city increased, it was Erik who gave the instructions on what to build where. It was Erik who drove the Dwarves to create masterfully crafted statues. His enthusiasm and love for the Dwarven legacy was infectious to many Dwarves. He was crowned within The Great Hollow and his kingship was sealed by his own words: "Here we stand, forged to last." Referring to his humble beginnings as a blacksmith, before rising to the throne, showing every Dwarf can achieve greatness.

Even though he admired the former kings, he knew that they went wrong somewhere, otherwise they'd still be here. His intend was to rule in a different way than all those before him, learning from the past like a true Dwarf.

King Kublai Kull of Khárûz-Korum,
King of Dwarves, The Gambling King, Friend of Dwarves.
90398
Piratep00f
[Character Writings/journal Link] <--- Kublai's Dreams until he forfeited the crown.

"King Erik changed during his reign... He was never blamed though. It was Khorug, the snake of a Dwarf that mislead the young king and ultimately turned his people against him." After the untimely death of King Erik Stoneshield, once again the Dwarves were back to clanwars. Khorug had spread lies and deceit, to strengthen his own position at court. Thordil was Korog's chosen, but found very little support from his Dwarven kin, perhaps because the Frostpeak clan publicly opposed him. While the Dwarves could not reach any agreement among themselves, a very old Dwarf returned from is hermit life...

It was Gromm Brownbeard, who returned to the civilized world with the idea to bring back the Dwarves to their former glory. "Starting to see a pattern here yet?" He wished to bring back the glorious ancient times of Gromm's youthful days; the days of King Hrothgar. He ran into the ordinary and slightly dimwitted Kublai Kull, who sat sobbing at a bar, rethinking his life. Gromm gave Kublai a purpose and together with Lemarc, a Human, they went up north and started digging in a mountain to sell the minerals and stones to the kings and queens of Human and Elven race. A business venture.

This very typical Dwarven activity caught the attention of some other Dwarves who felt they lost their edge; Grimli and Borgrus joined to help dig for riches and they together took the first little steps to rebuild the Dwarven kingdom. After weeks of toil, a feast was held in Aeroch Rimtar by Thordil, to praise their holy God called Korog. Everyone was invited, and even the feuding Frostpeaks Kris and Kristoff showed up, to set aside their differences and to praise Korog in the hope Korog would choose one of them to lead the Dwarven race once more.

Their God did no such thing, so they put it to a vote. It was close, Gromm and Grimli had a tied vote. They started to discuss heavily and the fires of the old feuds between the clans were lit once more. They yelled and insulted each other, when Kublai Kull, a dumb carpenter of low background, stood up and lectured them about how a king was not a king because he was voted to be! Rather, a king was such because he was an example to all Dwarves. A king could not be a true king if not all Dwarves followed him! The feuding Dwarves looked at each other and listened. Then, when Kublai fell silent, everyone agreed and they voted for Kublai to be king. There he was, lifted on the shoulders of Kristoff and Kris, mugs of beer were thrown in the air and Thordil popped the crown upon Kublai's head, who was now king and would do anything to reunite their entire race like in the times of Hrothgar; Gromm's dream.

"Unfortunately, the jubilation of a new king did not last long. Ill tidings followed Kublai's recent rise and the history I've relayed to you repeated itself..." Gromm advised Kublai from day one. Gromm was the one to go on trade-agreements, forged alliances, dealt with political questions, did the book-keeping and even found time to write his now-famous "Timeline of Altera", a book that details the entire history of the world. Kublai leaned on him heavily, for he had not the wit to do these tasks himself. Gromm Brownbeard died in his armchair at an incredible age, after finishing his autobiography tome. When Gromm died, all of that responsibility fell on the dumb carpenter-born Kublai, who failed to renew trade-agreements, insulted his allies and had trouble keeping up with his duties. He couldn't handle the stress and resorted to gambling.

In his grief and ignorance of kingship, he gambled away half of the wealth of Kharuz-Korum. Even the city itself wasn't safe when Kublai sat down at the gambling board, betting ownership licenses and storage units. Feeling unfit and being haunted by horrible dreams in the night, he turned to Thordil for help, who proposed for him to 'pass on' the crown to someone else. Kublai had no children, nor even a wife, so the crown would have to go to someone else. Kublai didn't think it was fair to choose a king himself, after he was chosen unanimously by so many others. One night he had a vision that all the dead kings of yore came to visit him. They each spoke to him and made it clear that he should put away his crown and renounce the throne. So ends the reign of Kharuz Kublai.

King Thôrdil Bárúmur the Steadfast,
Priest-King of Dwarves, Korog's Chosen King.
107844
Jazzper
[Character Writings/journal Link] <--- Religion profile of Thordil with extensive list of events hosted

"But luckily for the short fellows, this is not where the tale ends. For there was yet hope in the darkness..." Kublai stopped having his horrible nightmares, his Frostpeak brethren bought off the licenses from the people who had won them in gambling and restored Kharuz-Korum's ownership to the Dwarves. It is said Kublai went off to build a school called 'Frostwarts' in honor to his lost friend; Gromm. "And Thordil? Well, he made quite a name for himself!" Thordil achieved a place of power through his enduring persistence. He achieved incredible skill in his craft as a smith, for which he received good standing with the God Korog. He crafted legions of metal minions, which he each gave an individual name. With divine intervention, these golems were wrought together into two entities; Zustid and Babin. The characters from the ancient mythos once more roamed Altera. With numerous testimonies to Korog's greatness, countless sermons to His holiness, and the persistent nature of Thordil's being, he soon became the voice of the God which the Dwarves revere above all others. Through his persistence, feats of great skill, and ties to the holy Korog, he soon began to gather a following the likes of which hasn't been seen for a century.

Many years passed and the Dwarves did flourish well enough without a king for a time. They had reached the consensus that a king was not what they needed. Yet, this was about to change. Korog spoke to all who would hear and offered all who attended one of Thordil's sermons the promise of a crown. Korog spoke of a vote and a new king. Confused and angry, Kublai left the sermon hotheaded, but that did not sway the following that Thordil had gathered over his long years of service to the highest God. The vote took place in Kharuz-Korum, the King's Mountain, within the throne-room. There gathered Dwarves, Golems, and Babin too. There, several Dwarves offered up their lives for the kingship, but in the end; the great prophet Thordil Bárúmur was crowned king of all Dwarves.

Before his reign, Thordil started to patch up the city of Aeroch Rimtar, which had fallen into a state of decay after Erik Stoneshield had died. He claimed the refinery-city of Hurr Nor from Khorug, who had schemed his way to the rule of a town. Thordil used Hurr Nor's resources to craft a great tower in honor of Korog on top of the cliff Aeroch Rimtar was carved from. Now, as the prophet rose to kingship, he turns his crafting eye to Kharuz-Korum, the lost King's Mountain, and intends to bring forth a new glory. "Not a glory of auld, but a persistent, permanent glory for centuries to come..."

Fun facts:
  • The thread to look for the first king of dwarves was created by a later king of dwarves.
  • The first person who was regarded as King of Dwarves (Lars), OOCly states in the thread mentioned above that there should never be a king of dwarves. "If there is any[one] that should be king of the dwarves, it should be Tang. I don't think there could ever be any 'king of the dwarves' though, just the King of Thraall. One person could never rule all of a single species across altera, just like there is no King of the Humans." - Lars
  • King Lars has made an event in which people went looking for the lost fortress Karuk-Thol
  • To carve out the enormous hollow cave which would become the famous "Shaft of Thraall", only a little bit of world-edit was used. Most of it was carved out by hand by the citizens of Thraall. This took non-stop days and days on end. I believe even months for it to be fully carved out, at which time there were no buildings in the shaft yet, only pathways and a hollow space, with lava at the bottom.
  • At the time of Hrothgar's reign, there was a dwarf named "The fat legend" @Thefatgerbil . He was the master tinker and designed a redstone contraption as the gate of Thraall. It would activate a huge door to move into place, showing the logo of Thraall (the battleaxe) and barring all entrance to the capital.
  • During Hrothgar's reign. It was a custom for people that roleplayed as dwarves to shout HAIL HROTHGAR! Every now and then, for instance when they came online. Also when you entered Thraall, the city message would say something along the lines: "Capital of the Dwarves, Hail King Hrothgar!"
  • Seth Jenkins was a very strong political player OOCly as well. He managed to grab the throne and the power over all of Thraall, right under the noses of the Dwarves of Locun, both IC and OOC.
  • Krummi started out as an open minded Dwarf, seeking knowledge as far as the world was wide. He ended up as a closed, typical, traditional, short fused Dwarf, seeing no further than the length of his beard.
  • An error OOCly caused all the written books of Altera to be blank. Many times referred to as "The Great Bookwipe". Krummi always had feared magic, and he started digging deep under it, to be away from the effects of the magic that wiped the books, but leaving the once so beautiful city to fall into ruin.
  • The true reason to ruin the city was because it was "Griefed". While Piratep00f went absent, someone else had taken over the region oocly and put all the valuables in chests for safe-keeping, leaving many holes around the city. Piratep00f made the city look crumbled instead of restoring all the blocks.
  • Korog's Standing was indeed "abandoned" at the time. Seth hadn't been online much, so this move came unexpected. (once again the clever political play of Seth_Jenkins)
  • Boredbrit's effort to bring the Dwarves back has resulted in the fastest rise in Dwarven history: within 1 month they went from scattered individuals to an established house with status and alliances.
  • Erik, with his age of 56, is the youngest king to be coronated in Dwarven history.
  • His coronation was well visited, with over 30 attendants, quite an event. You can read most of the people that were present in the logs of the coronation, in the Dwarven Library of Aeroch Rimtar.
  • Boredbrit has thoroughly read through all the lore about Dwarves before starting his roleplay campaign to the throne. This did not only make his roleplay incredibly accurate, it also gained him the respect from old players who remembered the things he mentions from their own old days, such as, Warwolf , bodejodel , Piratep00f .
  • Piratep00f never wanted to be king. He was hoping someone would become king who hadn't been such oocly yet. But RP does as RP does and he was unanimously voted for king
  • Kublai might be the stupidest king the Dwarves have ever had. With strong superstitions, a liking to gambling and easy of trust.

Edited the story of Thrain, last night I remembered just before I fell asleep :D
I, too, have hailed Hrothgar for many times (Mostly because it became a custom to shout Hail Hrothgar! whenever a Dwarf popped online). But I must say I find Seth the best king so far, because of his ruthless nature. He was extreme. a Racist, a warrior, a true medieval nobleman, putting himself above others and forcing respect in a very scheming political way. I like to be under his rule as long as he was active.

Added fun fact at Hrothgar:

added something I came to realize while writing up all these stories about the different kings, some fun facts:

- People who roleplay as Dwarves most of the time have a good reason to do so. Often their characters irl fit the Dwarven character: Short-fused, easy to upset, extreme happy and dark emotions, always in for a laugh or troll over seriousness. This might be the reason for the constant shift of kings. To be a Dwarven king, you have to be a typical dwarf, or people just oocly won't accept it.
- Safe Seth and Jaret, all of the Dwarven kings were banned or temp banned. Most likely for their oocly "Dwarven Nature" (a.k.a. stirring up trouble, trolling, shouting, aggression.)

This is brilliant, thanks for all the hard work documenting this!

As an aside to your story, I can add some more recent history regarding Tahkul Rimtar.

OOCly- I reclaimed the region and had determined to rebuild it, but then I started Tambry and I couldn't afford to/didn't have time to run both at the same time, so I gave IC control of it to a new player named @Balatro, who turned it into a thieves guild base (@DarkWolf may or may not have been involved). Soon after, the thieves moved to Scourge and I regained ooc and ic control of it. I then traded control of it for ooc control of Dawnshard, a region in Hierax. Tahkul_Rimtar by this point was renamed "Reignfall" and is controlled by @Tempy_, who took down the above ground ruins and replaced it with a nice, quaint elven village. ;) I then sold OOC control of Dawnshard back to Hierax (that whole situation is another amazing story that prompted an amazing forum trial overseen by @DraconDarknight that found @jakp25's character guilty of conspiring and prompted Hierax to rewrite some laws). I never did exercise IC control of Dawnshard and did not for one second consider claiming it for House Stirling, but I digress.

IC- Morgan stumbled upon the ruins after hearing rumors of the treasures below the surface (there wasn't much there...) and staked a claim for it. Realizing that it was far removed from his other holdings, he cut a deal with a starry-eyed and fast-talking jester named Balatro. Balatro would run the land and rebuild. Morgan helped fund the thieves guild during the early stages but did not actively participate. Then the thieves were being persecuted by very powerful houses, which caused them to flee both a base in Tambry and the main base in Tahkul_Rimtar in favor of a better protected land named Scourge. Morgan got control back of the region but granted it to an elf named Illithior, who promised to build an elven village. That village, Reignfall, was (is?) part of House Stirling. Morgan asked Illithior to preserve as much as possible, so the underground parts were preserved.

For those who want to learn a lot of this IC, the Thiil library has a large collection of books written by PirateP00f about this exact subject. Really dude, your books are incredibly amazing for preserving history. I wish more folks wrote as many awesome recountings as you.

What about an elf controlling Tahkul for the longest time or perhaps the fact the same elf still casually controls Locun xD

This is so true and I find it hilarious because I've never thought of it before.

Thank you for the appreciation and thanks for sharing the recent history of Tahkul with me :D

Thank you! It has always been my motive to write them: So that later on people could IC use them to gain true knowledge about the history of the server. I've enjoyed the events as much as writing each one of the books.

It'd be interesting to do a dwarven revival, but it really seems that there's no way to keep any species that isn't human or human+ (elves) populated without the driving force of one player who's far, far more invested in the race than anyone else. It's happened with the dwarven kings, it's happened with the Earthspawn, it's happened with the Caparii...

Do you know why humans are chosen more than other races?

Easier to RP, I guess. Humans and Elves dominate the server, and 99% of Elves don't follow the culture stuff about them in the slightest, making them Human+.

People see/read more about Elves than Dwarves, making them go like "Ooooh I want to play that on this server!" while people chosing Humans mostly want to just make a fun char/make a char thats like themselves.

Niek's Personal Opinion: Also seems like less of a culture restriction and more open-guidelines. For Dwarves, for example, there are all of those clans. Culture and societal norms to follow. No homeland, so it's often difficult to be like, "Yes my character is from here." Halfings, same way. As with Caparii. There's a culture determining direction of the character.

With Humans, it's open ended. It's just easier, especially to make one and throw it into the world. And one of the big draws of Human+ (Elves) is the appealing way they age.

But as goes Niek's opinion, I think it really comes down to certain races having guidelines and few to no players motivated to follow those guidelines. Another reason no one follows elven lore. They want to do their own thing & play a character however they wan with no one telling them what to do or how to do it.
