As for the drug use:

The opium den now, the ones before, and the various uses of it have not been an issue thus far. No one has been stupid about it in any reports that I've read. Should you find offense to it, I encourage you to send in a report and I'll gladly remove it.

As for the brothel:
The brothels on this server have existed ever since Port Silver and before. They are always just part of the background. ERP is a bannable offense, yes. Which is why you don't see prostitute characters in brothels. It's all just implied as something that happens in the background and left at that. The brothels are just tongue-in-cheek jokes where that sort of RP doesn't actually happen.

If you'd like to discuss it further, you can message me or make a formal report instead of setting off a chain reaction of memes on a thread. :)
Serious reply:

If literally nobody in the community has an issue with it, why is it a bannable offense?

The original intent was likely not to ban anyone that simply spoke of or mentioned it, but moreso to cover bases in case it became an issue. Then they could point to said guidelines to back them up. Though that has its own issues of selective execution, unless they included clauses of interpretation by staff and common sense levels of engagement with the subject matter.

Selective enforcement is exactly the thing. Nobody truly has a problem with it, but someone could decide to report or enforce something if they had something against the person in question anyways.

If it's something we actively shrug at as a community, it shouldn't be a bannable offense.

old rules that probably need an update because no one gives a shit if we have opium and brothels

That's so close to amazing it's disappointing!

Put a goddamn cooking hearth in it and call it the Spit and Swallow.

More layers of verbal wordplay!

As I recall some things are kept bannable because the environment is meant for 13+, and sexual or drug-using RP may be used in grooming tactics.

Nobody really cares if you do a Fade-To-Black kind of thing but the rule is there as a protective measure.

here's the thing, there's a good handful of characters on the server that have worked as wenches/have had some sort of connection to them (Enter a handful of male characters being the sons of prostitutes) having prostitutes in an rp doesn't make it erp... it makes it an rp with blackjack and hookers (So long as its in a casino or starring a person with a gambling problem involving cards adding up to 21 or less) however, what's discouraged is the actual sex discussion, we don't wanna hear about two people bumping uglies, but don't really care if a noble brings a wench to a ball (That's just asking for IC trouble in my opinion though) same thing with drug use, your character can have opium on them, ad it can be a problem if they're knocked down and it spills out, or they're caught with it, but if your character were to start snorting crack on a table in the middle of a tavern, then there's a problem. IT's usage versus discussion I think, wording just needs to be changed.

In hindsight though, I do think there can be a few situations where discussing a thing can still be not okay, such as one character discussing how they and another character did the deed... still not okay. I'm not quite sure how to phrase it, but I guess just make sure all the details nobody wants to hear aren't made present? *shrug* someone else can probably word this better than I can.
