Bio: Yelena is a devout and passionate woman, raised in an Anhalder convent, and educated in the teachings of Ignis Synnove, the Dawnbringer. She exudes warmth and kindness in her speech, but fiercely denounces those who do not abide by divine law and holds disdain for those who worship traditionally evil gods. In addition to her devout faith and fierce devotion to Ignis Synnove, she is able to engage in meaningful conversations about theology and philosophy. She is a debater, and is not afraid to challenge those who disagree with her beliefs. She is fiercely independent, and is not afraid to go out on her own, traveling to new places and spreading the word of her god.

Despite her strong convictions in faith, she is empathetic, willing to lend a listening ear and offer a helping hand to those in need; she's quick to speak out against injustice, defend her friends and faith, and enjoys engaging in lively conversation. She is fiercely loyal to her allies, and will do anything to protect them. She is also deeply curious with new places, cultures, and people. Her spirit leads her to take risks and she is not afraid of the unknown, though authority will often lead her to silence out of respect for their word. She often uses sarcasm and wit to diffuse tense situations, else relying on sharp words.

Carried Inventory
[ Rotwellow ] [ Spiritual Weapon ]
A large bastard sword of a strange mirror like material, it has an exceptional leather grip. The metal has the mundane qualities of steel.
Made of: Blooded Silver Large Blade, Exceptional Leather-Wrapped Hilt
History: Rotwellow was created by Frost the mage, given to Yelena as a gift and to serve as a reminder to those she fights for. It has seen battle in the Ivory War and remains Yelena's primary weapon of choice.
Effects: The weapon will glow with the strength of torchlight in a color thematic to the divine, and intangible foes or foes that are otherwise immune or resistant to attacks from mundane weapons always take some amount of damage from successful attacks with it.
rotwellow2_cropped.png
[ {✣} Flamehearth {✣} ] [ Masterwork ] [ Silver Filigree ]
A viridescence longsword that shimmers with a faint white glow, decorated with a silver filigree along the fuller. The hilt is ordained with laid in volatile obsidian. When struck against other metals, it pressures and grinds against the target metal, causing abrasions as it emits sparks of olive and white embers.
Made of: Viridescence Large Blade, Ornate Volatile Obsidian Metal Hilt
History: Flamehearth is Yelenas first masterwork weapon.
Decoration: The hilt has been wrapped in red emberlark feathers, giving it a distinct warm feel. There is a place for a long feather to be held by a double laced silver chain on the hilt
Effects: Mages near the sword feel uneased, and those who make contact with the hilt, even through armor, are unable to cast until out of contact for two rounds. It may be summoned from any distance while in possession of the attuned ring Hearthdawn over a round.
flamehearth_4_cropped.png
[ {✣} Hearthdawn {✣} ] [ Masterwork ]
Within the deep blue gem, milky swirls of an ocean move around - of blues and silvers. The sapphire gems are cold to the touch. Gilded silver engravings are carefully written along the inside length of the band in Old Arcturian: the tenets of Ignis Synnove.
Made of: Viridescence, Sapphire Gem
Effects: It will keep the wearer cool in intense heat or hot atmospheres. It is bound to the weapon Flamehearth and while wearing this ring may summon it over a round to the hand of the wearer.
hearthdawn3_cropped.png
[ Veritas ] [ Artifact ]
DESCRIPTION: A translucent white and gold piece of metal that is warm to touch. In its neutral state, it is a small rectangular prism, holdable inside the palm.
PASSIVE: Veritas can passively take a shape of jewelry or adornments, forming itself incorporeally around the attuned into a desired color and shape such as a ring, bracelet, necklace, etc. When in this form it burns as a collective wisp of moving flames that the attuned is unaffected by, but is as hot as a candle to others; it wraps itself around those who intentionally touch its flame. It otherwise tickles those unaffected by the heat.
[ABILITY]: BLESS | The attuned reaches out to a target (within 15m) and blesses them with the grace of Ignis. Veritas splits and fires itself into another wisp of flame and light that acts to support her target, granting them a step advantage on the next defensive Soul roll that day and allows the use of the artifact's passive to allow it to take an ornamental form. This may be used as a reaction to an incoming effect. It can't be used for sparking rolls. This can be used thrice per day, recharging with the dawn.
ATTUNED TO: Yelena / Chuiden
veritas4.png
[ {✣} Wardburden {✣} ] [ Masterwork ]
An olive white and grey varied shield with a sturdy grip. The melding of machanite and eizholz results in a shield that excels in shock absorption and fire. The banded shield carries etchings of symbolism. Its engravings, depicting dynamic phoenix patterns and sunlight swirls, appear almost alive - the metals shifting with every gaze.
Made of: Machanite Ingot, Eizholz wood
History: Named in relation to [ Blockburden ], which was destroyed in the Ivory war.
Effects:
Machanite -Masterworked crafts seem almost alive, their patterns seemingly shifting whenever you look away and back again. It is even further effective against blunt damage, with a total bonus of +3.
Eizholz (Non-masterworked) - The wood cannot heat up, burn or melt by any natural means and is also extremely durable. A craft made of Eizholz returns to shape if it retains most of its structural integrity (e.g. the craft is not split in two, shattered or similar) and is placed in an ice bath overnight. The unique fibers of the wood seal together due to the water, which is left incredibly chilled after the craft has been repaired.
wardburden_final_cropped.png

[ [RG] Vyre Stake ]
A wooden stake, carved from a singular piece of birch. With a total length of 10 inches, it includes a sculpted, erognomic grip for ease of use. The tip has been sharpened down in a shape akin to a long bodkin arrow. Its purpose is ominous.
Made of: Birch wood
History: This vyre stake was given to Yelena in Blackrush, made by Raelur Fen'Shal.
[ | Dawn | ]
This band of gold curls into the shape of a bracelet with the two ends separated so one could slip it on. At the middle of the bracelet is an engraving of the sun, and in its center is a brilliant opal that displays a vast array of colors within. Along the surface of the metal is a line that goes from one side of the sun to the other. Upon that is a single inscription: | The Dawn Of A New Day |
Made of: Opal Gem, Gold Ingot
History: This item was given to Yelena as a gift from Jacob the Ranger; it is one of the first and only pieces of jewlery she wears regularly.
[ Mother's Guard ]
A small hunting knife with a worn grip from years of use. A symbol of a mother's duty in the woods, both for chores and defence. The hilt features a small 'E' carved into it, roughly.
Made of: Iron Small Blade, Yew Hilt
Histroy: This item was picked up during an expedition in the north, finding it among the ruins of a house. She carries with her to honor their memory, and as a backup.

Ignis Synnove (by Unknown)
There was once a God of Goodness. A God that was everything that was right, and good, in the world: The Sun God, Harateth.

Harateth was one of the first three Gods to step upon the world, bringing light to balance the darkness of Jishrim; both after the first God, Shalherana. He was brother, and the opposite, to the cruelty and the lies of Jishrim.

As they stood before each other, a balance was created in the primal forces of the world - Bringing forth the god Korog, a god of Balance and Permanence
Harateth, alongside Jishrim, took it upon himself to despise the others for their different views. The first battle upon the cosmos began quite shortly after Harateth, Jishrim, and Korog stepped into being - and within this battle, both Harateth and Jishrim urged the primal forces to create them a consciousness of war.

Thus the twins Valor and Kilrox were born of different fathers - Harateth and Jishrim respectively, yet of the same mother - the Primal Forces.
Valor and Kilrox brought forth legions to constantly war across the Void in an attempt to overthrow each other, in service of their Fathers - and these wars lasted eons with no clear victor ever emerging.

Eventually that of Neutrality, Korog, saw that none could win this war and sought to mediate this to ensure the safety of the Cosmos and preserve Balance. Korog communed with the primal forces to create a being from the pain and healing the Good and Evil had inflicted upon each other - and upon blood and steel, Skeira was borne. Upon being, she ripped a sword from each Kilrox and Valor and bested them each in combat, casting them back to their Fathers and dispatching their holy regions.

This sparked a new thinking towards Harateth, a revolution in all the Gods - Cold Wars broke out as each lay claim to the lands in a race for territory. Harateth became himself upon a forming star, and as Skeira had begun this peace, he unveiled Sallana. Harateth was smitten by her beauty, courted and laid with her, and they together created the twin Divines of Bilworth and Jax from the coalition of a free spirit and the want of Order.

Yet now, Harateth saw that Sallana would bring forth the Elves to rival the creations of Shalherana, to create more beings to bask unto the Light. Harateth saw as his brothers and rivals unto this - Creating life, and gaining followings for themselves. Harateth refused to sit idly by whilst they exploited this source of power; he, his wife Sallana, and his sons Bilworth and Jax descended upon the mortals. They appeared to them in forms the mortals would understand, beginning to educate and convert them into an enlightened and good state.

Harateth was content. The worship was good, his beloved was beautiful, and the sun shone brightly. As the turmoil of Queen Grief took the world, Harateth aided – and was praised. The praise led to pride, which turned an unknown piece of arrogance in him. For Harateth was the strongest, the wisest, the brightest and all that was Good in the world - It was only natural he deserved worship.

Suddenly, the cries and prayers of his devout were silenced. Upon looking unto the lands, Harateth became furious. The mortals had abandoned him, left his shrines dusty and uncared for, and turned away from the Light. Playing upon his fury, his brother Jishrim whispered to Harateth of a power. A power long vanquished, a power that could bring the world into one of Order and Light once more. Harateth sought this power - but when he realized that the corruption was what he was dealing with, he turned away.

Seeding the hesitation in his plan, Jishrim engaged in a battle of trickery - and Harateth was taken by the Corrupted forces; his mind warped. Slowly, bit by bit, the God began to lose pieces of himself. As Rahas, fearing destruction of the world, took the figments that were left – and he broke apart, nearly lost once more to the Primal Forces.

Spurred by memories of her old love, Sallana seduced nearly all the fragments of Harateth from Rahas. She tried to see him remade – but it was not to be. Instead, Harateth became reborn – rising from the ashes upon wings of flame, and from the lost letters of his name became the new Deity of the Sun: Ignis Synnove.

Ignis's Miracle (by Unknown)
"Today, I witnessed a miracle. It was a bright afternoon, when it happened. On my way to the inn, I came across a large triple cross with a kindling at its base. There stood a priest, bald with ansty burns, seemingly blind. Next to him and the pyre stood a crowd of about twenty people. Awaiting something. I joined them, unaware of what miracle I was about to behold

'I know that amongst this crowd there will be those who hold the sun close to their hearts' The priest started 'and those who simply wish to respect the great Synnova in their own way. Upon the pyre to my left, we have brought forth offerings, to show our gratitude to the Sun, for all that she gives. For warmth, light, and truth.'

This priest preached. His name was Maceo, as I would soon find out. 'I ask that you join me in a silent prayer of gratitude to Synnove.' And upon these words, he bowed his head lightly. Most of the crowd did the same, some closed their eyes too. After a few passing moments, Maceo looked up again. 'We give thanks to her, the most Holy Empress of flame. We ask that she accepts our most humble offerings.' He said, looking to his left where the pyre was situated. The sun above seemed to blink briefly before a great pillar of fiery light crashed down from the sky and set the pyre ablaze in a magnificent light. I stepped back and ducked as though someone had shot a cannon, and then slowly got up. In amazement, my jaw dropped.

'A miracle!' I yelled and dropped down again to kneel. There and then, caught off guard, I started to follow Ignis. The one God who had shown herself to me.

'These gifts we bring unto you, for that which you provide. We gather in awe of her most Holy Light. I beg that all who have gathered open their hearts to the sun.' He addressed us. 'Recognise her most holy embrace!' There was head nodding, jaw dropping, tears of joy, and no short amount of awe. I told the priest, Maceo, that I'd now follow the ways of Ignis and learnt the way to greet another: 'Deus Vult'."

Divinity IV (by Fadast)
Observing Ignis Synnove's philosophies must come with taking words at their face value, and not reading into too much depth - this in and of itself finds any would-be-philosopher who observes the tenets of this deity little to do. Regardless, analysis can be performed.

The first tenet finds itself laying a firm groundwork for the remaining words. All the words are true, and must be followed. Simplicity in its direction, it ensures no doubt in the mind of any worshiper.

This simplicity of direction continues - do not lie, and hold true to your word. Trying in perfectly with both the elements of Order and Truth that represent Ignis, as the deity does, so should the followers.

In the third tenets comes the aspect of nobility - with wealth and power comes immediate respect in the eyes of Synnove. Such a theme is not directly mentioned in the tenets again, but is hinted at through the responsibility laid at the feet of adherents.

By tying itself to the sun directly, Ignis Synnove draws parallels between the two. While not the sun, the deity would have worshippers believe the two are near enough one and the same. This tenet is worded carefully to avoid any true deception - an interesting occurrence but not to be touched on here.

Much like Sallana, Ignis states the monotheistic as truth; there is no other deity. The actual existence of other powerful beings is reconciliation often as angels (non-evil) and demons (evil).

Bringing in some minor aspects of nobility, Ignis specifies inheritance as a due - although, what form of inheritance this would take is left up to interpretation. It seems so long as there is an order, and that order is kept, the Lightbringer will be satisfied.

Heresy, as worded and in conjunction with the monthesitic statement, could mean any worship of deities other than Ignis, simply the evil gods, or any number of other methods of reading. This is oddly vague - what constitutes heresy is a question that surely perturbs most.

There is little to be said on the matter of murderers. A law, representing order, simply read and understood.

The burning of the dead finds itself more intriguing. Fire is a bringinger of light and its utilization as a tool for disposing of the dead can be seen as a final attempt to bring those dying souls as close to Ignis as possible - while also, as stated, keeping them from rising and being corrupted.

The tenets finished upon a reassurance of the first, by stating once more to follow all of these tenets. The more interesting, and less obvious result of this final tenet is the lack of its kind for most of the other deities. This indicates a stricter form of worship, one more ordered, is what is needed by Ignis.

Worship of this deity is described within her tenets and so not much depth is needed. Knowledge of local, and indeed all, nobility would be a worthwhile pursuit to enable greater worship of the Light that is perhaps less obvious.

Yelenas Work

Passives

[ Divine - Ignis Synnove - T2 ] [ Profile ]
[ Providence ]
][ The blessed’s soul is warded by their faith in their Divine. If something tries to possess them, or they’re targeted by an effect that is functionally identical to possession, the blessed may roll a d6 save to resist it. If they roll their tier or lower on the d6, the possession fails and has no effect. They are additionally fully immune to any attempts to lay claim to their soul (in terms of it being trapped, imprisoned, or otherwise by some entity. This is not expected to come up much in RP, but exists for flavor). For curses or afflictions like Vyrism or Spiritblessed, they may resist it outright or optionally roll a possession save against it.

[ Natural Allies ]
][ Certain creatures recognize the Blessed of certain gods and behave differently than they would to other mortals, so long as hostility isn’t shown to them.

[ Spiritual Weapon ]
][ By ritually praying over a weapon for one hour, the blessed may imbue it with some measure of the divine influence. The weapon will glow with the strength of torchlight in a color thematic to the divine, and intangible foes or foes that are otherwise immune or resistant to attacks from mundane weapons always take some amount of damage from successful attacks with it. Only one weapon may be imbued at a time. For bows, the effect applies to all arrows fired from it.

[ Blind Faith ]
][ The blessed relies wholly and unquestioningly in their faith in times of confusion, and may substitute Soul for Mind when rolling to resist mental effects.

[ Ignis Synnove Passives ]
][ A fiery glow appears in areas of the body in times of heightened emotion, adrenaline, or during spell casting. This can be the eyes, the veins of the body, or the hands/fingertips.
][ The blessed emits a comforting warmth to those near, as if they are the source of a small campfire.
][ If wounded, their blood appears as liquid light for all of a minute before it returns to its usual appearance, with even impacts (being hit, bumping into something, etc) glowing like light waits below briefly. Scars naturally heal pure white.
][ They are able to see in darkness up to a range of ten blocks in any direction as if they held a source of golden light.

[ Realmsguard ] [ Link ]
[ The Mantle of Conflict ]
][ Cult members are unaffected by the smells of carnage and blood, seeming physically more toned.
][ On the battlefield they seem larger than life, easily noticed by friend and foe alike.

[Grace]
][ Their voices become somewhat louder and more commanding in tone.
][ Metallic items upon them occasionally hold a blue or red sheen to them.
][ Their touch can instill a subtle sense of bravery.

[ Convent of the First Light ] [ Link ]
[ The Mantle of Order ]
][ Cult members cannot be blinded by any light, and do not overheat in the more extreme environments, such as the Nether or the Southern Deserts even if they still get hot.

[1/22/2023] Yelena visits Evenfall again for the same reason. She meets Sydri and sees Reinhard; Sydri and Reinhard have a heated discussion about family matters. Reinhard departs - Yelena talks briefly with Sydri on him. Sydri is familiar with Vowrawn, friend of her family.
[1/27/2023] Yelena visits Evenfall for a lecture on history, only to find it delayed. She engages in a conversation with Lana and Cael, as well as (Ophelia); they discuss about Arcane Anchors and the opinions of some divine towards it. Ignis is not impressed, and neither is Yelena in some regard. She is able to see one and is described how it works by Lana. Lana gives Yelena a few gifts after hearing about her message to the Realmsguard on her quest to find her lost convent. Yelena and Lana talk privately about the future coexistance of mages and the divine; Yelena is opens up with Lana. They both hope that one day there is a solution to their strife.
[2/4/2023] Yelena meets with Eirlys after she pledges to help find her missing convent. The Father of their convent returns to the church, and tells of a plot of brother Peter, that he has delved into heresy, and has taken the congregation on a 'pilgramage' south to find an artifact of Saint Mallos. Yelena promised to find them. Yelena settles Eirlys in for the night and teaches them basic Rede.
[2/5/2023] Yelena attends a sermon at the Lodestar Ruins, seeing ▇▇, Erwin, Sydri, (Albert) and Leonhardt (Ironwood), who hosted. Upon arriving, they find their convent in battle with a giant scorpion. They defeat it, and treat the wounded. Yelena attempts to convince Peter, the leader of the faux-pilgrimage, to return. She manages to convince the rest of the convent, save for him; Yelena defends Tiek from Peter's cruel view of her. She leaves him rations so he does not die as they bring the convent home. They return, and manage to convince an exhausted and nearly starving Peter to return home.
[6/12/2023] Yelena visits Storms Landing at the Krakens Den. She seems surprised that talk of Ignis is more open now than ever. In passing sees Leonhardt and Tiek, and has a long conversation with ▇▇ on when it is right to pass judgement, as well as the happenings with the civil war between ▇▇▇▇ and Xander, and demonic activity within the realm. She is witness to a conversation between ▇▇ and Leonhardt on the correct course of action and their settlement of some council to take the place of Aleksandr on his absence of the throne. She's given a brief introduction as to Iuno, who she would have engaged in conversation but for ▇▇ entering the scene. Yelena feels out of the loop with the current happenings but tries her best to keep up. ▇▇ invites her to her lands, and she invites ▇▇ to Hearth to visit Patrick and Peter in her convent.
[6/13/2023] Yelena recieves ▇▇ at Hearth, where they catch up on the recent happenings of the faith, and the council of faith deliberated between Leonhardt and ▇▇ . She is also surprised that they have invited her to sit upon the council, which she accepts. She tours ▇▇ through her house after they share bread. They have a conversation about how they make each other feel. Yelena shares her first kiss with him, and they rest together that night.
[6/14/2023] ▇▇ continues his visit to Hearth. They share fond moments and a day touring through the village, visiting the church, and getting caught by the convent doing what people do at the top of trees. Yelena in particular introduces ▇▇ to Patrick, one of the younger members of the church.
[6/15/2023] Yelena visits the Tower and listens to what ▇▇▇▇ has to say in regards to recent events. He addresses those in audience his plans to eliminate and kill those who are working with the demon Drandoden and hold fiends within them. Yelena speaks out to also consider that those with fiends were once people and that the light can still offer salvation to them, and that they should not be sought after indiscriminately. She postures herself as an ally to his cause as she would attempt to execute persecution in another way. She also sees Frost in attendance, who offers their support. She is curious to another that spoke out (Marian) and their history with ▇▇▇▇. She disagrees with the plans of Laicelem to capture fiend and force their exorcism, for what she's heard many still turn back to becoming fiends through this path. She warns ▇▇▇▇ to not rely on fear, for it goes in both directions to ally and enemy.
[6/19/2023] Yelena visits Eberland, the home of ▇▇ . They share prayer at the chapel and go on a tour of the village. They arrive at the keep and tour there. In a moment of sincere words Yelena and ▇▇ attune some confirmation of their romance, faith, and hopes together, spending the night with each other.
[6/23/2023] Yelena explores the wilderness with a group of people: Maebh, Eliss, Asero, Laisa, and (Shelly) Elly; her own motivation is to explore for artifacts relevant to her convent, as well as offering a helping hand to people in the north. They encounter the ruins of a hut left abandoned, and suspect it to be the previous homes of a lady and a child long passed. Among their finds are a knife, a journal, and some other mundane artifacts; the knife Yelena suspects was left purposedfully for someone. They escape dealing with some poisonous berries and instead deal with 3 wutgeists. Upon matching the knife with the bears previous scars they match similarly. She reserves her anger and collects the creatures pelts.
[6/25/2023] Yelena has bonfire at Hearth, where she gives a sermon, songs, and worship to Ignis with ▇▇ , Pohk'urz, and Hiedric. She gives a tour of Hearth (w/ Faith). Pohk'urz wishes to settle in Hearth and Yelena accepts him.
[6/29/2023] Yelena visits the landing, only to find a group of cultists attempting a ritual. She, Faith, and Eris, go to stop them. Xiqu joins them. They take a cultist prisoner and slay an undead dog. They find a note leading them to a further ritual. They go to investigate, and manage to slay the zombies being risen there and apprehending another. They recover some mundane artifacts from them.
She then travels to Ashtadt, where she is hosted by Xiqu and Leofwine, a squire of the Keepers of the Veil. Faith is also there, and she sees Leonhardt briefly. Faith and her have a discussion on her hatred of blooded silver, her beliefs, and her problems at the White Tower; later as well her turning vyre and the problems it has caused with her relationships. Leofwine describes his time as a squire, going to hell, and being taught by ▇▇▇▇ in combat.
[7/1/2023] Yelena, along with a group of others: Hiedric, Fronslin, Lacielem, Halvar, Xiqu, and Leofwine, go to Queensport to assist in the eradication of large white-haired creatures that have been infesting the area; they also encounter giant spiders which they slay. She suggests to the noble Hiedric that he recommends each of their locations are burned. They also discover some kind of curse on the spiders that lay there. Fronslin informs Yelena of a phenomeon known as petranatural darkness, which can be driven back by the light. She heeds her advice.
[7/2/2023] Yelena partakes in a tourney to raise funds for her church in Hearth. She sees very many familiar faces, including Tiek, Leofwine, Leonhardt, and more. She faces against (Soup) and Veldric, making aquaintance with him, and witnesses Aleksei beat Veldric in the final. She gets a hard knock to the chest and is delievered to the hospital.
[7/5/2023] Yelena witnesses a meeting between Aleksei, ▇▇ , and Podric, meeting Podric for the first time, where Aleksei signs a lease to land in ▇▇ 's realm. Later she discusses her findings on the site further south, and begins to learn Lavoye; ▇▇'s uncle Podric did not wish for Yelena to learn Old Arcturian as of yet.
[7/7/2023] Yelena has a brief chat with a visiting Leonhardt at Hearth, talking about their duties, apprentices, and recent events.

Journal
Written as an insight into Yelenas character, as well as certain dates that were turning points or interesting moments for her.
Yelena is sitting quietly in a nook of a church, in a small village in the land of Anhald. There, in her sleeping clothes, she has spent her allowance on a small journal to write in. She is 9, and has an excited but tired face as she writes with her small hands against the pages

My name is Yelena and this is my journal. I will now keep it for my sake because sometimes I have alot of thoughts that I cant always remember. I live in a church.

I do well to stay silent when I am not spoken to, and I help with the service often, more than some of the other children here. There are a few others, like John and Patrick, as well as Peter and also Frida, my best friend who is the only other girl here. We are often in study to know the divine history, but mostly we study God. We are helped by another person in the church and he is going to be a priest – his name is also Peter, but he is not the other Peter who is my age. Frida is my best friend because she is so nice to everyone but we are best friends. We go into the garden together and we also like taking walks together. We also pray together and it's nice to hear her voice with mine too because we have the same voice almost.

We help with the service too. We help with baptisms and also funerals, but mostly we are helping with mass. The boys wear all white and the girls wear red, and we hold little lanterns of brass where we put some herbs in. They smell nice and sometimes I like to put my head over it all service, but one time Peter caught me so now I do it just secretly. John also does it too but he wasn't caught. We say the prayers in Common for practice while the priests says it in Rede because we all know the prayers in Rede.

Patrick is one of the younger boys here and he is always crying, he was crying today, I dont know why but me and Frida try to help him calm down sometimes. I tell him that God is always here for him but I do not know if he sees the light yet. Sometimes I remember feeling like him, when I was first here because I was so young too. We are fed well and we are also given time to go to town with the rest of the service boys and girls. Our rooms are nice too. There is an image of God in my room that I always pray to, and it is also placed out of a window which I'm look out of now, but it is night time now so I'm tired. Goodnight, journal!

Yelena is now 17, the journal has many pages written in it of her times and days. Her handwriting is small, and perhaps only a third of the journal has been written in, though the pages are worn from constant use. She sits again on her bed quietly in the nook of the church in a bed much to big for her, weary.

Today was not happy - one of the new boys arrived here after the separation. I do not know why we dont take them in older. Perhaps, because we do not have a proper nursery. I did not hear him cry again after a few hours.

Frida and I had a fight a week ago, but I was not well enough to write it down. It was visceral, the way she looked, and how she screamed. I do not think we can reconcile. She no longer feels it right to live here, nor to worship God, and left the night after. I cannot find her in town. It is winter and I am worried for her. I cry often at the loss of her.

I think upon her misguided judgment, and often pray more than usual. I look to Ignis for guidance.

Yelena is now 25.

Today I have left the church and am writing in an inn. They said it is time for me to go out into the world and spread the word of Ignis. Father, the preist of our covenant, does not have much time to live he says, and that the church will be soon taken over by brother Peter. I said goodbye to them, and gave an especially long hug to Patrick, for he was close to me and I wished him well. Peter had bought me a beautifully made blue cloth as a hood that I now wear.

I will begin to travel around Anhald, and then I plan to travel the Kaltic. Perhaps in a few months I shall travel even south, and learn of the practices there to spread the faith of Ignis, and visit the cathedral in a city called Storms Landing.

============+============

Yelena writes for the next few months in her journal, as she travels and informs of the word of Ignis. It is in the north that she starts, and it is mostly reciprocated in places she is familiar with, until she arrives at her first town in the south: Storms Landing.

- [3/19/2022] Confronts her fears of blindness in an attack against the Krakens Den Inn. Stabbed in the back of the leg (by Melarue, unknowingly). Prays to the Dawnbringer to find strength and light. Healed by Valtae. Meets Melarue and Hysope; hears Hysope's story of the Exodus to the continent.

It is with pleasure that I write again in this journal, as I find myself stricken with some fear at the events of the day. It was a most frightful evening – I had arrived at the Storms Landing, where I might find respite in the Krakens Den Inn. A fortnight ago, I had reserved a room there for brief stay on my visit to the cathedral, which has it, was ruined many months before by a terrible Evil.

Upon my entrance I found myself blinded, suddenly, and attacked – pierced with a knife to my left leg. As it bled I prayed to Ignis for strength and light, and in turn I was met with a healer named Valtae. She was kind to me and offered me respite in the hospital there where she worked, though I was satisfied by the healing they had provided.

I had then met a woman named Melarue, for whom I thought seemed distant, and then a dwarf named Hysope, who spoke to me the recallings of the Exoduses – I was much to young to ever remember such a time, but had read upon it in history books in the church. It was a gripping tale. I must find out more about it some time.

- [3/20/2022] Defends her faith against Som and Kharn. Meets Joakim, the bard. Prays for strength to find light and truth.

I find myself riddled with some sadness tonight, for my belief was confronted in some hostile manner. In fact I find myself assaulted with anger, though I must find it in my heart to forgive transgressions against my person. Yes, tonight at the same inn I found myself in the presence of a Theodran named Somnastra. I questioned her, as she seemed close to heresy in not believing nor agreeing with the words of Ignis. She spoke, that one does not have to follow a divine to follow their law, which I found contradictory against the tenets. I was met, quite without my consent, with sudden visions of their god at her touch. It was a vision of her, hunting unholy creatures in the shape of a wolf granted by Theodra, and no light is given purchase – this vision reached out to say that the hunting was for good, but besmirched, I pushed her away, in some anger I did not know I had and finding myself regretting now, and stepped away. Though after a prayer in silence away from the situation, I asked that, in the end, we might see each other parting well that night, though I do not know how well that was taken.

I think upon what my mentors spoke of to me in church when I grew; that there are those that do not believe in the faith, and there are those that do. Those that do not are misguided, for this is truth they do not believe in, as light does not guide, so they say. I think upon what was imparted, as I find myself in rare moments in question as to their wisdom. For do not all Alterans live in their own truth, even outside of the real truth? It may be a silly question to even ask. But I fear I will continue to ask it.

It was also in this conversation that I learned much about the transgressions of those of my own faith – the inquisitions and the crusades that many of my faith had gone under, and the seeming genocide some had looked to commit to purge heresy. I find myself, a generation later, feeling this effect of my ancestors, and the actions they have committed under the guise of our faith. Surely, there must be ways for us to live together in such a small world?

- [3/21/2022] Meets Leonhardt, Uriel, and Lysander. Travels to the Cathedral at Eldpoint and gives prayer to Ignis Synnove. Partakes in discussion on divine and magic.

Today whilst traveling to Eldpoint, I met a first of one in my faith – a man by the name of Leonhardt, lord-inquisitor of the Inquisition. I had also met one of valiant – Uriel, as well as another traveler named Lysander. Accompanied by Leonhardt and Lysander, we traveled to the cathedral at the elvish city – and what a sight it was! The architecture of the city is styled and unique, unlike any city I had seen in Anhald.

I had learned that not long ago, a siege had befallen the city, and Leonhardt informed me of its reasons.

After a shared prayer, we had some discussion on that of the divine and of the arcane. I had spoken that all magics contribute to disorder, but I had listened well to that of the word of Leonhardt, that some magics like that of formistry are used for healing and for good. But it is still that magics are disorderly, and that the divine are orderly. However, it is not our place to attack those of magic, as that would only serve to cause more disorder in the laws of places where such is allowed freely.

- [4/3/2022] Meets Maple, a proclaimed heretic. Engages briefly in conversation about their beliefs and tolerance. Prays to Ignis for guidance on this topic.

Today on a walk I stopped myself in front of a campfire, meeting an orange haired girl named Maple, who proclaimed herself a heretic. We discussed, in brief, the ethics of killing heretics simply for their beliefs. I made myself clear that I do not tolerate heresy nor come from a place that does, but that I must respect the laws of the places that I visit. She left, shortly after.

I prayed that I may understand them.

[5/8/2022] Yelena goes to Blackrush, greeted by Mylohk and meeting members of the Realmsguard. In present were (Raelur who exited), Mylohk, Storm Arcturus, Anisar a warden of the realmsguard and student of healing arts, Byrne, Leonhardt. Learns more on their mission and ideals. Has a longer conversation with Anisar about realmsguard, their backgrounds, cultural awareness, and learns a line of Mok'yra.

I find myself sitting on the couch of the house of the realmsguard, in Blackrush, after a conversation with one named Anisar, and before after a conversation with members of the order as I seek their membership.

She is a moor elf, that far from the culture of my own, yet many of the same things we seem to relate on. It makes me wonder how far apart those of different faiths are.

I spoke of my childhood to her.. plain in comparison to her life in the fields of fire, that of the ashlands. Yet, she seemed to also think about her childhood as plain.

I had invited her to eat with me, but there was some hesitation on both our parts. I feel as though my insistence was not reciprocated but out of pity or sadness to me. But, I digress, she regardless shared the meal she had made with me. It was a moment I found myself vulnerable to her, in some regard.

She spoke to me of her clan, and of her language, Mok'yra, and the difficulties of speaking it, despite some insistence on my part to perhaps share an exchange of language with her. It was not a comfortable topic, but, when has it ever been comfortable?

It payed off, in some regard. I learned one line: 'The food is great', for which the sound was like: 'Tzu yur tri ztav'. A difficult motion of the tongue.

I ended the night on a pillow of some red hairs, that I believe is a pet of hers named 'Mr Red'. A funny and cute name, I thought, for a fox.

I find my eyes closing on themselves as I write, slowly now. But still, I am in high hopes for the days to come.

[6/11/2022] Prays at the Eldpoint cathedral to Ignis. Meets Keone and Anya at the Eldpoint cathedral, speaking on their experience with the inquisition. Tense moments with Anya, she offers her a knife to kill her, Yelena refuses. Tries to understand why magic is still being used despite the attempts at restrictions, and in turn is offered an explaination from the past experiences with Anya on the gods, as well as information on efforts to revert the effects from Lana Wake. Attempts to assure her the difference between the Gods and the wills of people. An understanding is half-heartedly reached.

I met Anya again today at the cathedral of Eldpoint. We had a conversation that turnde bitter, when I had called the hypocrisy of her allegiance to magic as a way to restore order. She turned a knife to me, which then suddenly she gave to me, asking that if she should die because of her magic, then I should end her. I took the knife and threw it aside – it was a silly notion that I would kill her, and I wonder now if there is something else wrong with her mind. Though, she has good friends – the Makani near her at the time seemed ready to aid her defense, should I have taken the knife to attack her.

[7/11/2022] Meets Lana Silveria, a heretic who makes statues of the divine, and also of dead gods like the moon as well as bug people. Learns she helped found the Inquisition, but also wants to remove heresy. She is hesistant to want to know her. Meets ▇▇▇▇, remeets Freia, sees (Marian) a ranger, sees Frost as well. Invites everyone to a bonfire.

A heretic I met today, and so blatant – a mage named Lana Silveira. She was carving statues of the divine in the cathedral. Holding conversation with her seemed contradictory, as she herself even helped found the old Inquisition and seeks to remove heresy, even though herself surronded by it. I am hesitant to want to know her, but she seemed civil, regardless of her nature. I regardless invited her and those I saw in the cathedral to a bonfire I am hosting tomorrow morning.

[7/23/2022] Goes to defend against demons at the Lodestar Ruins. She slays many demons in the fight at risk to herself, restoring order and instilling courage wherever she could in her allies. She heals some the wounds of (Erwin), whom she recognized from the fighting and carries him to the hospital with Lana and (Godmund).

A brutal day. Demons slayed at cost of injury to many. I write very tired as I return to the landing to rest. I met Lana again, for she had come swiftly to heal one I had fought with. He seemed on the verge of death. I find myself again confronted with the kindness of mages.

But such brutality, these demons that show not mercy – and so we shall show them none in return.

[7/26/2022] Arrives in Eldpoint to take the oath of the realmsguard by the guidance of Mylohk Danik, joining them officially. Learns how to make a bonefire of valiant and its conditions. Meets Queen Amelia and the earthspawn Tiek.

Today, I have taken an oath to the Realmsguard in the presence of Mylohk.
It is a good day.

[7/29/2022] Meets Trefor, (Fania), Anwar, Mylohk, and Andrew at the north wall of eldpoint. Has a longer conversation with Andrew about battles and fears of it.

On a walk to meet with some Realmsguard at the northern defenses in Eldpoint, I had a conversation today with a halfling named Andrew. He was friendly, though I had noticed his relation with Mylohk seemed hostile, though perhaps in another way of his. I was not certain

Regardless, we spoke on battles fought, and the fears of battle. I spoke truthfully, that I was afraid of the demons to some degree, but that I know that it is Ignis that brings me closer to courage against them. Andrew spoke in truth as well, that it is not demons that scare him, but the loss of friends to them.

It is easy to look evil in the eye and face it, but harder to protect and survive against them, I had commented. As I reflect I find myself faced with this again, as I will be going to a hospital close to Storms Landing in a few days, where I will face evil in the eye again.

Ignis, protect me, and guide me. I will die one day, but I wish it not then, for I have much yet to give unto the world. I think if this is cowardice that writes – I paused to reflect on this, and know now that it is not wrong to want to live. I will live, and defeat the demons, for then there is hope in my heart we shall prevail. We will prevail.

============+============

[8/1/2022] Yelena fights at the Adventurers guild to defend injuried at a hospital against a wave of demons, alongside Erwin, ▇▇▇▇, Laicelem, and others. She warned the injuried of their advances and made safe the fighting parties retreat.

These last few days I have found myself much in the way of trial and combat, for it is now that I am oathsworn of Realmsguard, and have taken battle against the demons of the rift. From the battle at the rift itself, to the ruins of Lodestar, to the hospital of the Adventurers guild. I have been shot, bruised and battered, yet still I stand. It has been tough, for the demons advances hit hard and swift.

Though there is hope, for not only do we, Alterans, fight for the last man and woman, we fight for our freedom against them. The people survive -- and I pray to Ignis Synnove every sunrise and every sunset, that I may be continued by her blessing and given strength by her light.

[6/15/2023]
I found myself engaged in a thought-provoking discourse with Sir ▇▇▇▇, whose beliefs on combating demonic corruption sharply contrasted with my own. While I respect his passion and dedication to the cause, I couldn't help but feel a sense of frustration at the limited perspectives presented. His unwavering commitment to exterminating the contracted troubled my heart. I couldn't help but wonder if there could be a more compassionate approach, one that doesn't strip away our humanity in the face of darkness. I am determined to explore every avenue.

[6/19/2023]
Dear journal, my heart is overflowing with emotions that I struggle to put to words; my heart has been captured in a way I never thought possible. His playful smile and gentle touch, has awakened a fire that burns brighter with every moment I spend with him. The way he sees me, and I see him, beyond any scar -- with him, I feel cherished. His presence, the way he listens, ignites a sense of hope I thought I had lost. In his arms, I find solace from storms that have battered my soul.

Yet, amidst my joy, there lingers my trace of apprehension. Some wound that still haunts me since my time with Frida. But I will refuse that shadow to consume me.

How my heart races.. Until next time, dear journal.

[ ]◈[ Holy Symbol of Ignis Synnove ]◈[ ] A pendant of a phoenix with its wings outstretched and beak wide, hung by a long chain, used often in prayer to Ignis Synnove, God of Light, Order, Fire, Nobility, and Truth. Holy symbols of this nature impair biter vyres. Fledglings may not hold them, while those enthralled and consumed cannot be within a meter or 3 meters respectively, else facing loathing and anxiety. The flesh of a consumed biter vyre is seared at its touch.

Inside of the metal-ball can be placed a small sponge, allowing for liquid to remain in the device for a longer duration, often for ceremonial use such as baptisms or mass. Aspergillums are used to purify those doused in these ceremonies.

The pyx has a symbol of the phoenix standing in a fire, as the flames wreath the edges of the lid. Engraved on the pyx is messaging in Rede, with prayers reminiscent of cleansing rites written on long draping cloth that works complexity around the circumference. One may say that the imagery and wording invokes a holy protection or containment of the items within.

OOC Reflections

C
haracter Inspiration
[Original Post]
yelena_inspirationcard2.png

1.) Éowyn- The Lord of the Rings
“What do you fear, lady?" [Aragorn] asked.
"A cage," [Éowyn] said. "To stay behind bars, until use and old age accept them, and all chance of doing great deeds is gone beyond recall or desire.”

Eowyn served as my initial inspiration for creating Yelena - a leader who is both fierce in battle and compassionate towards her people. Growing up, I was captivated by the world of LOTR in both the books and movies, and aimed to reflect the themes of loss and perseverance in my own character, with Yelena embodying both determination and courage in the face of adversity.

2.) Yelena - Attack on Titan
"Saving the world... Is there a sweeter set of words that charms people more than those? ...Giving yourselves over to that exciting sentiment of saving hundreds of millions of lives, washing all the ill will down your throats like it never existed... That's what you look like in my eyes right now."

"Every country has its problems. The only certain thing is that there are those who stepped forward to put an end to the long history of fear, blood and tears."

"Those brothers will be the subject of tales in many millennia to come, and they will become a symbol. Like the Gods of old."

Yelena was a significant inspiration for my own character, not only in name, but also in behavior. I found her actions in the show to be intriguing and her unwavering faith served as a foundation for (my) Yelena's characterization. Particularly her impulses, such as the way that Yelena fantasizes their ideal world (and later reflecting on it) or committing other unbecoming acts. Although it is toned down to a degree with (my) Yelena where she would rarely act on these impulses, (aot) Yelena serves as a reminder that in certain circumstances, a person doing seemingly rational things can become irrational or completely flip the script. Additionally, her appearance also served as inspiration for Yelena's (along with Eowyn).

3.) Sypha Belnades - Castlevania
"Sypha, do you have my back?"
"Always."

Magic user and general badass, but also a leader and loyal to her friends. Her analytical mindset, strategic thinking, confidence, and compassion resonated with me and are part of what Yelena strives toward. Another part taken from Sypha is her unwavering dedication to remove unquestioned evil from the world, safe guarding her companions as well as the world around her. What Sypha wears in the show also inspired part of what Yelena wears, as well as her humor.

4.) Jeanne - The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante
Jeanne: "Father Ulrich, forgive me for my impudence, but I refuse. You and I belong to the same lot. You are not a noble - you cannot give me orders"
Ulrich: "Tell me, is your indecisiveness motivated by fear or pity? I advise you to consider which of these is more ruinous for an inquisitor."

Jeanne is a character from an obscure visual story novel type game who plays the role of a wavering inquisitor of the old faith (or depending on character choices, a devoted inquisitor), partially inspired by the works of Thomas Mann. Throughout the game, players are presented with various choices that shape Jeanne's character, such as vindicating a hatred to those who practice magic, letting her realize one of her closest friends is a mage, and more. Jeanne herself is a passionate figure with a fascination for the gods, but having been raised by an isolated and discriminating society, she struggles with social connections and often rationalizes her decisions through ends-justify-means thinking. After reading the lore surrounding the game, I was compelled to include part of her characterization with Yelena's backstory and mindset.

5.) Saint Joan of Arc
"You say that you are my judge. Take thoughts over what you are doing. For, truly, I am sent from God, and you are putting yourself in great danger"

"But since God had commanded me to go, I must do it. And since God had commanded it, had I had a hundred fathers and a hundred mothers, and had I been a king's daughter, I would have gone."

Joan of Arc was and remains an inspirational figure to the French and the Christian world as a military leader and breaker of traditional gender roles. Despite her success, Joan was eventually put on trial for heresy, and accused of a variety of charges including wearing men's clothing, hearing voices, and not submitting her deeds to the Church. Her refusal to conform to societal expectations and her unwavering commitment to her faith, ultimately led to her execution. Her ability to connect with her faith without being constrained by the societal pressures and expectations that surrounded her is what I found inspirational to Yelena's characterization.

6.) Portia - The Merchant of Venice
"The quality of mercy is not strain'd,
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath"

Portia is the female protagonist in William Shakesperes The Merchant of Venice. This is a character that's not the most heroic figure, as her treatment of Shylock (the play's antagonist) is perhaps unjust. In her famous monologue "The quality of mercy is not strained", Portia urges the court to show mercy to Shylock, but the court ultimately decides to strip him of his wealth and force him to convert to christianity and does little to protest; in fact she urges him to comply. She's nevertheless presented as a complex and dynamic character that defies societal expectations and stereotypes, outsmarting suitors, and being resourceful and compassionate to her peers. I watched this play after creating Yelena as a character, however, I found certain comparisons that were salient and relevant to how I play Yelena now, including the way she speaks generally.

7.) Others
Just briefly, some other characters that played a small part in inspiring Yelena and I couldn't help but include: (7) Alicent Hightower from House of the Dragon (season 1), (8) Ellen Barethon from The Crown and the Dragon (appearance; a bad movie otherwise), (9) Guinevere from Merlin (really good show), and (10) Kathryn Janeway from Star Trek: Voyager (another good show).

I dont think Yelena and Som interacted past this, so this is their only interaction. Her feelings are more complex now to this, as Yelena has changed as a character since then. We should rp : )
